But seriously, how do you become a millionaire when your math is so bad?? Avocados are $2.50 each in my local grocery store (in Portland, Oregon). If I ate 3 avocados every day for a year, it would only be $2740 for the year — assuming an average down payment of $70,000 (20% of Portland's median house price), eschewing avocados would take 25 years to add up to a down payment on a house. Even if you had "smashed avocado with crumbled feta on five-grain toasted bread at $22 a pop" and a $4 cups of coffee 3 times a week ($26*3*52 weeks), that costs about $4050 a year — so cutting those out means you could have saved up for that down payment in just over 17 years!

Even assuming you invested the money you would otherwise be spending on fruit at 5% — which incidentally would require risking loss in the stock market, because you can’t get returns like that right now by parking the money in no-risk bank accounts — it would still take 12.7-16.8 years to amass a down payment by cutting out avocado toast and lattes.
