Controversial Take: BurningCheese isn't a BxA Outlier
The villain x hero trope is notoriously toxic, but to say one BxA pairing is worse than the others is a misconception. I have done my research, looking at both sides' opinions. Please note that this post is impartial. I am not here to tell you to hate or love it. I am here to prove that the allegations of misogyny, slavery, and racial discrimination are unfounded (with supporting evidence).
Allegation 1 - Physical abuse is worse than mental abuse. Abuse as a definition is "treat with cruelty or violence, especially regularly or repeatedly." Every Beast has hurt their respective Ancient dearly. Shadow Milk treats Pure Vanilla as a doll to be stitched back together, attacking his self-esteem. It got so bad PV jumped off of his spire. Mystic Flour convinced Dark Cacao's allies to die. Eternal Sugar love-bombed Hollyberry, threatening her if she ever left the garden. Golden Cheese was physically forced to her knees and watched Burning Spice destroy everything around him. Her body severely crumbling. The type of abuse isn't some competition. Burning Spice knew brutality is what would get to his other half more than any mental attack.
The artā¦ very much exists. There is a decent amount of sexualized art of her in chains and such which is a provocative form of imagery for a reason. Or just art that focuses on how cheese is brutalized in a sexual manner (demeaning her, etc). And I know one of the ppl in these screenshots; they are black themselves speaking about how black people are oppressed by non blacks (not just limited to white ppl) so Iād be mindful of dismissing their interpretation.
Ship what you want, but there are valid reasons for why BurningCheese bothers ppl compared to the othersā
I never said I was for or against the ship. I linked my friend's blog because Merchant often speaks about how misrepresentations arise for this specific pairing, sometimes without a romantic lens. If the chain art exists, I need a link because I cannot find it. My main point was that the timelines on Twitter and Tumblr when searching the tag aren't bombarded with uncomfortable depictions. I'm very much aware some fanarts aren't ethical.
Dismissing experiences is not/will never be my intent. The person specifically mentioned African slaves. Not black people in general. Otherwise I would say yes GC was oppressed by a man of a different race. It's just not the cause for Spice's brutality. He doesn't care what race you are, you will be obliterated in his eyes.
I wonāt post specific are cause a. I donāt want to post explicit art where minors can see and b. I donāt really feel like dragging it back out is to anyoneās benefit. There is a reason it gets brought up a lot.
And the dislike doesnāt have to be solely based on canon cause no he isnāt biased against her racially canonically; however, sub-textually their identities inform the narrative, how people depict it, and how it is seen. This occurs both in the biased ways it gets depicted and the way some see their pains in the relationship when they themselves are black; a black woman was whisked away from her home to be brutalized and attacked is a loaded story arc itās not hard to understand why people see it the way they do.
I and others Donāt. But if a fan is black themselves itās not unfair of them to see the pains theyāve dealt with in this very loaded story; many black fans and individuals deal with the pains of being diaspora and such which connects back to African heritage.
I respectfully disagree. I made this post to shed light on how canon treats the story. Anyone who reads my words is free to dislike what I have to say or like what I have to say. But, I stand by the research I did regardless. (Please don't insinuate that I don't understand where people are coming from. GC is an inspiration to black girls, and seeing her in pain is upsetting. Seeing her lift herself up could help real people do the same. Finding a ship personally uncomfortable is not the concern I have. The concern I have is false information being used as a weapon against shippers.) I'll leave it at that.
Im not insinuating anything Im pointing to that fact you took words that exist in the context of a black fan who exists in diaspora culture, stripped them of that context, and used it as an example of someone thinking itās coded as slavery when that is Not Their Point. And dismissed said original point by saying how āstrongā and girlboss golden cheese is when being strong doesnāt suddenly mean someone canāt be in pain. The opening cutscene of chapter 6 is quite literally one of the most heartbreaking things in cr imo.
Yes she can oppose him but there is a reason canon and esp the way fanon treats their dynamic makes people massively uncomfortable. And removing the context of who and why a user is saying what they did to make a disingenuous point isnāt cool.

I may get some hate for this but I donāt care anymore this has been driving me insane ever since burning spice was released
Iām sure if you look up cookie run content on any media talking about the beast & ancients youāve seen these collection of comments

Or comments following a similar pattern
Here the thing tho
Cookie run as a game follows a very basic pattern in every update
āGood triumphs evilā
No matter the update rather itās;
Fire spirit vs agar agar
Ginger brave vs pomegranate
Pure vanilla vs shadow milk
The hero, no matter how out numbers or out ranked will always win
And the beast update follow a very loose pattern as well that you can see in every update (minus the first beast yeast update where elder faerie died)
Chapter 1;
-ancient goes looking for the beast, typically with a few companions by their side at the beginning
- ancient finds beast
-some sort of dilemma/battle/mental torture
-ancient is at the brink of losing/dying/failing
Chapter 2;
-some way or some how the ancient remembers why it is they became an ancient, and remembers what they fight for
-ancient awakens
-beast is defeated for the time being
Many things can happen in between these check points and they can reach these check points in many different ways but one way or another you will always get to that story checkpoint
White lily ISNāT going to fail
One way or another she is going to come out victorious with an awakened form
(And for the love of god can we please stop saying her awaken form is going to be dark enchantress, that would quite literally be the OPPOSITE of an awakened form)
Why her souljam is upside down in the ācoming soonā of her and silent saltās gacha pull I donāt know yet
But she isnāt going to turn evil. And she isnāt going to die
(At least not permanently if she does, girlies like a cockroach in the best way possible, she will not stay dead)
Moving on
People treat white lily as if she is a meek and weak character, or as if she weaker than the other ancients
Which is just not correct
Because 1, if white lily was weak than dark enchantress would in no way be as strong as she is as most of her strength and knowledge on magic comes from white lilyās own memories being used against her
2, white lily has shown time and time again that she isnāt weak, she a quiet and shy character, yes but she still an ancient hero, she fought just as many battles as the other ancients and survived
Letās not forget that, even if he wasnāt at full strength, she still single handedly defeated shadow milk
āOh but she didnāt actually defeat him, she just sealed the treeā
Yea, that COUNTS as defeating him. Letās not forget how so many of the more toxic shadow milk fans got pissy at white lily because she defeated him.
(This also goes back into my previous comment of; no matter what, good will triumph evil)
White lily is also one of the stronger ancient cookies just in game. I donāt know about the rest of you but Lily has my dark cacao and Holly beat by a landslide and she not even awakened yet.
Lily as a character isnāt weak. She morally gray, she complex, and a bit of a wall flower but she is not weak
You are allowed to not like white Lilyās character, but I feel so many of the fans treat has as if she is satan incarnated, as if she willingly threw her ass into the ultimate dough and did a backflip on the way down.
Lily never intended to fall, she never wanted dark enchantress to exist, and she doesnāt support dark enchantress. She horrified by dark enchantressā actions and actively despises what sheās done to cookie kind. She sought out the witches to HELP cookie kind, no matter what that has always been her goal, to make cookies stronger and less likely to crumble, actively throwing herself in dangerous or sketchy situations just to find answers, to find a way to help others, because she is the keeper of the souljam of freedom, and she seeks freedom for all.
And Iām going to say something that Iāve not seen anyone else say.
Dark enchantress wouldāve existed with or without white lily going to the banquet.
The ultimate dough had already been prepared. The witches were always going to bake it. The only thing lily added was half of her soul this including half of her memories and likely some of her strength. Dark enchantress clearly doesnāt share white Lilyās opinions or feelings for others. And only ever seems to refer to herself as āformerly white Lilyā when it aids her in harming her enemies
Dark enchantress wouldāve existed with her same personality and desire to destroy with or without Lily.
Likely Lilyās soul only made her a bigger threat sooner than she wouldāve been had she not had that half of Lilyās soul.
Lily and dark enchantress are essentially two separate entities. They share half of a soul yes, but their memories (after the banquet), opinions, goals, morals, and relationships are all different. They also cannot control each others actions.
White lily had no control over the war dark enchantress caused just as dark enchantress has no control over the actions lily has done since her revival
They are more akin to twins now than to being the same person.
More over, if you wouldnāt thank dark enchantress for the good white lily does, donāt blame white lily for the evil dark enchantress does

White lily, by the very laws of the story wonāt lose to silent salt
White lily isnāt weak and these white lily hate comments are getting out of hand
And white lily and dark enchantress are separate entities and shouldnāt be given the credit or blame for the otherās actions

Iām really excited that weāll likely see pre-corruption Shadow Milk in the next update. On one hand, I want him to still have a lot of obvious elements that make him similar to how he is now. But I also really want there to be a connection between him and Pure Vanilla.
I think its pretty heavily implied that Shadow Milk was the founder of the academy Pure Vanilla and While Lily went to. The whole place has his aesthetic, that one portrait relic that looks a lot like him, and with his original virtue being knowledge, no duh heād make a school where he could share it.
This would mean he literally made the basis of his education, āI taught you everything you knowā kind of thing. It would be cool if this comes up in BY chapter 7/8, and because of how Shadow Milk now uses his knowledge for the sake of manipulation, he could say things like āI used to be a lot like youā and āeverything you know comes from meā as a way of getting PV to doubt himself.
This also affects White Lily, because going to that academy may have increased her interests in creating cookies, at least giving her the materials to do so. (And hey, I think Lily going to a school made by SM could be why his eyes appear watching her soul jam in her gacha animation)
Thank you op omg I think about this a lot and the way the academy likely perpetrated already self destructive tendencies rather than properly addressing them and helping her.
She was deeply troubledā isolated if not bullied for things she couldnāt help like her scent. The adults and educators in her life had a duty to try and help her, but the culture of the academy instead celebrated her self destructive and generally destructive pursuit of knowledge.
I stand by the fact that if Lily had a better support structure as a child that properly addressed her issues sheād be entirely differentā
The day people stop calling what they did with White Lily and DE a retcon is the day I know peaceā No just because the wider fandom wanted something that didnāt happened doesnāt mean it was a retcon the hints to this were there for a while. It wasnāt a sudden decisionā
Iām not saying they did it seemlessly and perfectly tbh I think having them ever even considered the same was a flaw in writing given DE was a character written and designed at a different time than Lily and as Iāve discussed many many times it is SUPER HARD to take a pre existing character and say āoh theyāre this totally unrelated character with differences in personalityā and cr just couldnāt make it work. Pearl is a better example of this sorta thing with her as white vs black.
It would have been as simple as having Lily follow DE or work with her for a time it would quite literally have the same affect as Lilyās hands would have still been involved in what happened.
But I am kinda over critiques of the writing that arenāt the issue. The issue isnāt they retconned the lore itās that what they were trying to do was never done well and they likely should have gone for a different direction.

ok Iām incredibly dumbfounded on this so cookie run super fans: explain to me how White Lily cookie and Dark Enchantress cookie just coexist? Is White Lily like a clone?
The hints that they were seperate to some extent existed for a long while; the Lily in the opening cutscene was NOT hinted to be an illusion that is an assumption and hc by fans. The Lily Gingerbrave sees seems to have been one, but thatās not the same as the one during the final battle.
Two, this one admittedly relies on having seen stuff, but Lily and DE were coded as seperate units since the beginning of the game (overworld quotes, etc). Which meant the intent was always to have some way seperate them. Was how they did it perfect? No I feel imo they should have just made de and Lily wholly seperate and Lily is led astray by DE and helps the CoD for a time after the horror she saw. But eventually leaves and has to redeem herself. But people forget DE had a character since before Kingdom and that character just doesnāt mesh well with Lily and so the two being their own characters just was the easiest solution to the plot holes posed by acting like they were. Itās not that Lily is good and DE is bad; DE is flat and Lily is more rounded hence the way they donāt mesh well together.
