Meijack wears her hair up in braids 24/7 because she doesn't like how it feels. She doesn't like how hot it is, doesn't like when it touches her shoulders or back of her neck, and how it gets in the way of her work. So naturally she complains about this, to which Chilchuck responds with, "just cut it. Both your sister and mother have short haircuts, so what's the big deal?" Confused as to why she continually refused to cut her hair anywhere past mid length if she hates it so much. Meijack claims she just doesn't feel like it. It's too much work to keep cutting and styling over and over.

My interpretation of this art (it's from one of the Daydream Hour issues!) is that Chilchuck took the time to prepare the chest, wear the mimic costume, get inside and give his daughters a fun little jumpscare when they opened it, but they were either not impressed, didn't get it, or just wanted the candy, so he just went. Deep fatherly sigh.
