20 important study skills/tips iâve learned from my professors
1. start studying a week before every quiz/test. seriously.
2. watch youtube videos/ted talks on the topics you are learning about.
3. get lots of sleep! sleep helps you process the dayâs events, including what you learned.
4. write out your notes. itâs proven that handwritten notes help you learn better than typed out notes.
5. donât just read what your professor gives you. find academic journals, books, etc. that correspond with your subjects.
6. read the news! especially in the social sciences/humanities, connecting concepts with current events helps you understand and process more easily.
7. exercise! this doesnât have to be going on runs or lifting weights, it could even just be going for a 20 minute walk. just get your blood pumping, itâll help you focus.
8. study at your desk. it may be tempting to study in bed, but your brain connects your bed with sleep, so youâll get tired more quickly.
9. reviewing notes doesnât have to be something you sit down and do for an hour. skim through them and test your memory while eating breakfast!
10. expand your study time throughout the day to avoid burnout. for example, rather than studying for 5 hours straight, study for an hour here and there in between your activities.
11. make your notes organized and easy to read, but not distracting. bright colors and flashy notes may seem better, but can sometimes distract from the purpose of the notes.
12. use apps such as quizlet. this way, you can go through definitions while waiting in lines or walking to class.
13. itâs more important to know concepts rather than facts. for example, you should be able to take what you know and apply it to different situations, not just the situation the textbook gives you.
14. just because the professor doesnât require you to read textbook, doesnât mean you shouldnât. it helps explain concepts in a different way than your professor, and a lot of times hearing two different explanations for the same concept helps you understand it.
15. read in advance. read the textbook before your professor begins going over the chapter, so when he/she does, you can easily follow what they are saying.
16. do any extra credit work that comes your way. even if you donât need the extra boost now, you might later.
17. go to class!! if you always skip class and show up at office hours completely lost on the concepts, theyâll laugh in your face. theyâll take you 100x more seriously if you show up.
18. however, if you are sick, take a day off. itâs more beneficial to you in the long run.Â
19. learn how to say ânoâ. if you have an 8 am the next day, donât stay out until midnight with your friends.Â
20. donât stress too hard over quizzes. if you expect them to go horribly, they will. you got this.
SOMEONE FINALLY SAID IT
So if a teenager is at school for roughly 8 hours, and they are doing homework for 6+ hours, and they need AT LEAST 9 HOURS OF SLEEP FOR THEIR DEVELOPING BRAINS, then they may have 0-1 hours for other activities like eating, bathing, exercise, socializing (which is actually incredibly important for emotional, mental, and physical health, as well as the development of skills vital to their future career and having healthy romantic relationships among other things), religious activities, hobbies, extra curriculars, medical care of any kind, chores (also a skill/habit development thing and required by many parents), relaxation, and family time? Not to mention that your parents may or may not pressure you to get a job, or you might need to get one for economic reasons.
I will never not reblog this
ââŚbut teenagers have no reason to be stressed.â
hey did you know anxiety levels in high school teens are actually as high as they were in insane asylum patients in the 1950âs? :)
The African Renaissance Monument in Senegal, larger that the Eiffel tower and the statue of liberty .. Things you donât see in mainstream media. @KrystVegaNeteru
This is beautiful.
I think this picture better illustrates the size of that monument.
I never even knew this existed this makes me so happy to find out about it
đ
Itâs been a really long time since I came on tumblr, but I started thinking a bit about how difficult year 13 was for me and what I could have done differently. theyâre lengthy but thereâs a lot to be said!!
These are some things that helped me when I was studying with depression - I have to say these donât always help, and nothing will replace getting medical help. These just helped me take each day as it came, so I hope theyâre of some use!
Please, please, please think of your health and really take care of yourself whilst studying and even more so in exam season.Â
âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ lots of love

Athena blessed her with the ability to protect herself and men beheaded her for it.
Thatâs actually a really intetesting intpretation of it I hadnât thought of. Most people seem to think Athena turned Medusa into a gorgon as punishment for defiling her temple, but thinking that she did so to protect her from being abused again is interesting and I like it!
Athenaâs hands were tied. Yes, she was a powerful Goddess, but she was very much a woman in a âboys clubâ, and the true offending party (donât think for a moment that Athena blamed Medusa for being raped in the temple, Athena knows better) held all the cards. There was nothing that Athena could do to punish the true criminal, and she was expected to punish Medusa by everyone else. Whatâs a Goddess to do when she cannot punish those who need to be punished and is expected to punish not only the truly innocent party, but her most beloved follower? Use that incredible brain power she had to protect Medusa at all costs, and of course the men would see it as punishment, to be have her beauty stripped from her and sent to live in the shadows. Medusa should have been KILLED for supposedly defiling the temple, whether she truly did or not, but she was given the gift of life, and the ability to protect herself and her daughters (who she bore thanks to Poseidon). This is why Medusaâs image was used to signify womanâs shelters and safe houses.
Medusa means âguardian; protectressâ, and she was.
holy shit.

How to study like a boss
Studying is a very personal thing. Thereâs no right or wrong way to study, you just need to find your learning style. Itâs not that simple, although. Sometimes you have to try everything to find whatâs really working for you.Â
Lectures: itâs very important to pay attention to what your professor says. You can just listen to him without taking any notes, paying attention and writing some important topics or even writing down everything. This last one works really nice for me because when I just listen to my professor without writing anything, I get really distractive (easily). Taking notes makes me concentrate on what is saying and pay attention to the words so I can write.Â
Find your place: library, dining room, your room. Some people can only study in their home, like me. As I said, I get distractive easily and at my place, I know that wonât be people to border me with their noises. But if you prefer, go to a library and study there with your friends or alone. Company might help you to stay motivated but careful to not lose your time with talking. See how it works for you!
Study sessions: not everyone can stay focused for 8 hours - or even have this time to study. Try to study for an hour and take a 15-minute break. If you canât study for that long, cut it for half an hour and take a 10-minute break.Â
Breaks: they are very important to relax. Get out of the place that you are studying. Get some fresh air or watch something on youtube, check your instagram. You can also take a nap! Studies say that a 20-minute nap helps to improve your memory and also to learn better. Iâve tried taking this couple of minutes to sleep after lunch and it is very helpful. You should totally try.Â
Drink: always have water on the side to drink during your day. Staying hydrated is so important! Coffee is a good helper when you are tired, but donât drink too much.Â
Balance: you need to recover yourself. Sleep well, take a time to work out and have time to hang out your friends. Studying can be really stressful and, if you donât have time to yourself, you can lose your mind. This will help you to boost your productivity and your focus.Â
Everyone knows that on Uber/Lyft you should always give the driver five stars unless they, like, drive the car into the ocean or something, right? You canât say âthe ride was fine, nothing special, so I gave them three stars,â because the company will punish them for being anything less than perfect.
Well, you should know that the same rule goes for any kind of customer service survey. Unless the service you received was unacceptable, give them 5/5 or 10/10 or whatever. Itâs annoying, because it ruins the sensitivity of the survey, but itâs how itâs gotta be. 9/10 gets treated like a problem and 6/10 gets treated like a disaster.  Understand this and do the workers a favor by grading easy.
Exactly.
If you didnât vote in the last election because of reasons, then PLEASE vote this year and in 2020.
I know the Democrats are far from perfect, but Good God Almighty, they are not the evil bastards that the Republicans are.

Beatrice Dreams longsleeve for Sharp Type, available through Actual Source, 2018. Quote by T.E. Lawrence translated into Spanish: All dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.
