Reaper au- Death’s sister Life or ‘Blaze’ as Sonic calls her

She’s much… colder than her brother, disillusioned with her duty as life itself, thinking it’s a pointless endeavour. if everything she makes inevitably dies then… nothing matters, no point in getting excited about the spark of life she ignites in every living thing if they’ll just be snuffed out anyway

essentially Shadow has been hunting Sonic down for millennia because Maria was murdered when they were so close to saving her, it was a tragic death that felt so unfair so Shadow is on a mission to kill death as revenge and spare others from that cursed fate by doing the impossible, killing death itself and he’s been on this mission for many, many centuries

it’s pretty much a self righteous mission that shadow is taking on to avoid mourning and to give himself someone to blame for what happened (but it’s hypocritical cuz Shadow doesn’t feel bad about killing anyone he views as ‘deserving’ of it) and due to his immortality Shadow is the only one who can actively chase sonic down

Sonic finds the chase thrilling but Shadow just. Really frustrates him as person. However he’s not one to complain about some action and excitement while he makes his rounds, makes ‘em more interesting in his book

And Shadow has companions that are the ghosts of those who havent moved on with unfinished business, who hate death like he does for ‘what he did to them’ in cutting their lives off too short. The ghosts are channeled through certain objects that they had on them when they died and with an ancient spell the ghosts energy can transform the objects into different weapons that can hurt magical creatures and can actually hurt Sonic (something that gets Sonic’s adrenaline junkie ass hyped much to Shadow’s chagrin)

Reaper au- grim reaper sonic’s main fit! His outfit changes based on the general perception of death people have in his general vicinity so it varies from place to place, from century to century but I wanted to give him a chill default look (nowadays it’s clear that death can be found in other ppl)

Wanted to give him deceptively lighter colours in this fit so he’d hide in plain sight, like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He’s always chilling in his mortal form cuz he likes being able to blend in among the crowd + getting chilli dogs is harder with his true face (he only shows it when he’s serious)
