No, thank you.
I was reading a blog from the lead singer of a band I have listened to for about 6 years now, The Summer Set. It was a blog thanking the fans for their support through everything. I went through and read the rest of the blog entries because I was curious as to what was there. What I found was a mix of emotions, honesty, excitement, doubt, fear and unconditional love of music.
It made me simply think, “No, thank you.” Thank you for writing songs that I and many others can relate to. Thank you for not giving up and releasing one of the best albums. It made me think thank you, not to just The Summer Set, but to any and every band to ever make music that you made just to be heard by anyone. We heard it. Whether you are huge or in your parents garage someone heard you. Someone heard your song and message and cried. Or someone heard you and thought, “hey this is awesome. I love it!” No matter the message it was heard. Music has such a deep impact on a person, speaking from experience, one song no matter the message can change anything. I would listen to Circles by All Time Low on repeat when I was upset because that song would strike me and wipe away my anger and tears and make me smile.
You can feel the struggle that artist went through in their music if you just listen to the lyrics. You can even relate to it on a very personal level. Everyone I have ever thanked is so humble and says “we do it for you guys. ” I thank you from the bottom of my heart and for others too because without music I would not be who I am today or know people I know today. When people say to you your music saved my life they mean it, we mean it. Your music can be the reason I get out of bed. Sometimes it has been the only reason. Even that simple reminder in my favorite song lately, 24 Floors on American Candy by The Maine, that all you have to do is stop and think about the people around you who love you and you remember as The Maine put so simply, “..you don’t want to die tonight.” So thank you to all the band’s big and small that have helped me through my darkest days and made my good days all the better. Thank you, because I would be nowhere without you and there are no words to express my gratitude for you. So thank you.
