“The past makes the future what it is” - Nick Gregg
Or something to that effect, my notes got a little blurry. But I remember him making the connections that songwriting is storytelling, that you are showing a part of yourself bare and sharing that with the world. It's a narrative you set in place but that you don't really control. He recreated a place that doesn’t exist anymore, even in the simulation it's a grey almost foggy version tinted by loss. It's an amazing way to tell a story, a story that isn’t yours but that through your rendition, recreation of it it has become a way for you to tell your story. It's a circle.
Sketchbook dump
A lil bit of everything that's been on my mind and some embroidery ideas.

I ‘screenprinted’ a mangacap and hoked it up to some LEDs, it was a lot of trial and error but I’m happy how todoroki turned out.

Response to Guest Speaker
It’s important to make an impact with your projects and what you want to do in life. With Montecinos, the fact that he valued coding skills and what they can help someone accomplish, the fact that he valued education and sought out ways to make it more accessible was great to hear. Like Hernanadez when he talked with our class the things we choose to do can reflect the change we want to see in the world and that is inspiring to say the least. Montecinos projects are fascinating and are in the vein that I should be exploring, they show the records of the social revolt in Chile and his personal response to it. What he chose to emphasize, what he chose to save or not. “Atlas of the forgotten Chile” compared to the revolt of the replica, compared to the conquista. It’s an interesting evolution of thought, of how he took apart the idea and pursued it from different ales and in different contexts. I think this has gone a long way of informing my thought process, that I need to narrow down my scope and try to add a greater technological/educational side.
Flowers and Gradients
I had some fun with watercolors then with image editing in ps, I should try in lightroom next tbh.
Zentangle Tile
Through many, many, many hours of Photoshop I made a repeatable zentangle tile. It was rough, I saved each process bit but ultimately it was very satisfying...like those puzzle pieces we made in elementary school that fit inside themselves diagonally.

Contemplating using this for my next lyric piece, instead of the gradient idea. Might do both.
Leaves in PS
I’ve been having fun playing around with leaves in Photoshop and hand-drawn animations.

Constant Output Week 11/09
Two variations, first I did the silhouette in the bottom right and then the collection of leaves.
Progress on latest GIF
The top image is from this blog, its piece of art by Ton Kuchar with lyrics over it. I took a desert image from unsplash, replaced the background, added a song and animated the gif with frame animation in the bottom right. I realized I wanted a smooth effect so I learned how video animation works in Photoshop and got the smooth effect I wanted, I was gong to go back and frame animate the letters on top. Which is so painful, because of the various layers and filters. HOWEVER I think doing a video animation would work better, and by that I mean a lyric idea. Which means learning animation of Photoshop files in after effects, something I only found illustrator to after effects tutorials.
Sketchbook Progress for week 9
When I first heard the song, without looking at the album art nor the video, I thought it sounded so familiar and I couldn’t for the life of me remember why. But when I saw that it was titled flowers it reminded me instantly of the echo flowers in Undertale. The vibe of the song is very reflective and with the water drops and the repetition It was like it was a trip back in time. But I tried to keep with the image, the feeling of the echo flowers as I started to brainstorm. I had a rough idea of what I wanted. I think that there was definitely something inherently sad about the echo flowers so I wanted a child-like silhouette laying in fetal position and surrounded by blue. I had to practice leaves again so it’d feel more natural I also water colored asui from a manga cap;) I considered using her in the pattern but her hair was going to steal the focus. I drew a rough stitch template and used that to try and ground my design in reality, really plan out the stitches in the design. The last sketchbook page is my rough draft and below the transfer onto the cloth:)
Undertale - Waterfall
This gif is from this video. I really loved the design and the soundtrack (soundtrack here) from the caverns, I definitely spent a lot of time down there tracking flower to flower it was so beautifully done - a simplistic loneliness, ya know?
Flowers - Lyrics Gif
I played around in Photoshop and learned how to animate a GIF, I also played with photo editing. The original picture is of the smoky mountains so it was all blues and greens, I even swapped the sky out in my edit.I had sum fuun.

Flowers by In Love With A Ghost feat. Nori
I really love this song, its a great one to listen to on repeat. Its a so cute and romantic but not very linear it really does feel personal and special. The first pic is from the video in love with a ghost posted here (its the 20min one, you’ll thank me later;)) and the second one is from a fan animation: here. The animation has so many layers to it too, the water, the blonde and each of the frogs move at different intervals from each other and to the song!!!! Plus the calligraphy line connecting to the ‘f’ in flower is the audio for the song!Ans all the little details with the plants in the foreground, middle ground and background!!! AND THE REFLECTIONS! I love.
