Trade Gothic Next Font Family from Linotype

Trade Gothic Next is a grotesque sans serif family published by Linotype, released in 2008 as a systematic revision of Jackson Burke's original Trade Gothic (1948–1960). Under the direction of type director Akira Kobayashi and redesigned by Tom Grace, the family corrects the original's accumulated inconsistencies in terminals, spacing, and kerning while adding compressed widths and heavier weights. The result is a 17-style system organized across three width classes—regular, condensed, and compressed—with full italic coverage in the regular and condensed cuts. Trade Gothic Next retains the mid-20th-century American industrial character of the original while meeting the technical demands of contemporary print and digital typesetting.
