The Graphic Design Bible (Prestel, October 2023, 320 pages) is Theo Inglis's single-volume primer on graphic design, covering roughly 150 years of history across five chapters: History, Theory, Practice, Typography, and Mediums. Each topic gets its own illustrated two-page spread with images, a short essay, quotes, and further-reading suggestions, moving from Bauhaus and Gestalt theory through to social protest graphics and social media design. Inglis, a design lecturer at the University of Suffolk and author of Mid-Century Modern Graphic Design, aims for breadth over depth, making it a fast, visual crash course rather than an academic deep-cut. It's best suited to students, self-taught designers, and professionals wanting a refresher and less suited to anyone looking for a hands-on process or business manual.
