You have to break down so many barriers in order to get close to someone. It might seem like a paradox, but unhappiness is easy. Whereas you’ve got to really love yourself before you can let yourself be happy. You have to believe you deserve it. Otherwise you just can’t bear the joy.

Sometimes you have to be apart from people you love, but that doesn’t make you love them any less. Sometimes you love them more.

The news of the death of Chadwick Boseman feels devastating. Not only because he was so young, on the cusp of even greater stardom, but that he always communicated such humility and grace and kindness. The fact that he battled his cancer in private also speaks to those qualities of quiet strength and immeasurable dignity. It’s a tragic reminder that we never know the secret pain someone is enduring; the will power they must summon sometimes just to make it through the day. Rest in peace Chadwick, and thank you for leaving so much of your talent and beauty behind. The roles you played and your remarkable courage will inspire generations to follow.
