A heavy downpour

And then damp

The smell filled her nostils

And felt it's way around her face

A gentle breathe in

She stood on rubble

Barely grazed by the downfall

As people rushed to her aid

A few scrapes scattered around her body

No broken bones

She was fine they said

But the scars inside her head

I am young

I am female

There's so much I can't do.

I can't walk in the dark,

I can't go out in the mornings

Sunrises, sunsets, I can never enjoy them alone

I can't wear clothes that show too much skin

Because unwanted attention is then my fault

They tell me to bury keys between my knuckles "just in case"

And I dial 999 in dim lit areas

But how do I even know I'm safe then

Harassment lies in the hands of powerful people still, doesn't it?

Don't smile for too long

Don't seem too eager

Don't be too easy

Don't be too noticeable

But danger still strikes in those sun soaked days

In those footsteps behind me

In those hands that lack control

I'm a young girl after all

I'm powerless

And I am weak

I know that because I'm made to feel like that daily

For my own protection or not

Sadness rolls in like a fog and I'm blind

You're all I can see

A sad smile on your face

You're begging to be saved

A bus packed with unfulfilled souls

Do tell me what goes on behind those glassy eyes

Do you not sleep enough

Are you unsatisfied with your job, your wealth, your lover?

Can you not seem to write the words you need

Play the notes you wish you could

You travel the same journey as I do

Yet our goals couldn't be futher apart

An uncomfortable weight I could do without

But it rests on my shoulders anyway

But I crawl away in fear

I want to be young again

This miscommunication is killing us both

But your lips are unable to move

And my chest heaves for air

I just want to collapse into the dark world of sleep

The silence will hold me like it always does in its non existent ways

I just want to fall out of existence with this thieving world

Into a world of silence and calm

I act like I'm over you

But the thought of you still sits heavy in my heart

Regret tears my chest open

And grief settles itself in my heart

In that hole you left so suddenly,

I sew it up daily

With string that can hold together planets

But the pain of missing you
