During the early 1900s, the aesthetics of traditional African sculpture became a powerful influence among European artists. In France, Pablo Picasso blended the highly stylized treatment of the human figure in African sculptures with painting styles derived from the post-Impressionist works. This resulted in pictorial flatness, vivid color palettes, and fragmented Cubist shapes that helped to define early modernism. Parme Marin is known for its bold use of color and shapes just like Picasso. His work not only inspired influential painters but sculptors and artisans like myself.Â
Like Picasso I love using bold colors. Warm tones such as ocre and rust help create a nice parallel between my pieces and the color schemes found in nature.Â
Top Right: TWOBACCO II Bottom Right: MELLOW YELLOW
The use of wood brings character and complexity to my pieces and is an element that I use in my designs to create unique and original jewelry. Top Left: KNOT ON WOOD II Bottom Left: KNOT ON WOOD RING // Â Bottom Right: KNOT ON WOOD BRACELET
Picasso's infamous African sculptures were also a source of inspiration for Parme Marin. The duality of the masks as both structural and artistic pieces are similar to the design purpose behind my necklaces. Check out some of my other couture pieces below. Center: COUTURE PIECES

Roy Newell x Parme Marin
Roy Newell's work explores bold shapes and color combinations, creating mesmerizing and striking masterpieces. The essence of his work is compellingly minimal, yet the use of geometric shapes and bold color adds an abstract component to his paintings. I am inspired by the strong geometrics and rich colors in his art, which are elements, I have recreated in my own collections. Check out my picks of the designs and pieces that have been inspired from this unique and one-of-a-kind artist!
Newellâs use of strong defining lines has inspired me throughout my own work to create geometric shapes and designs.                              Left: CABARET //  Upper Right: KNOT-ON WOOD BRACELET //  Bottom Right: KNOT-ON WOOD NECKLACE
Like Newell, I design statement pieces that command attention, by playing with unique and quirky shapes.                                        Upper Left: ARCHI RING - GOLD  //  Bottom Left:  INDA //  Bottom Right: PHARAONIQUE II
I love to combine striking and primary colors when designing, to create dynamic and bold pieces.      Left: TRAPEZE //  Upper Right: AFRICAN POUCH  //  Bottom Right: MASQUE I

The Virtual Collector - Hairpins and Combs
Collecting is not just obtaining items, it is an art that tells a lot about diverse people, traditions and civilization. I have decided to create virtual collections of beautiful objects, starting with ethnic hairpins and combs. This is related our logo which is an African comb (final image).Â
Both of my parents are collectors. When I was young, my dad would take me every Sunday to Le Puces De Saint-Ouen. As I walked around the isle, I had no thoughts other than starting my own sets.
Collecting is a practice that has existed throughout different times and among diverse cultures. People can collect the most random items (spoons, doll eyes, taxidermy), which has always been fascinating to me.
With the arrival of the internet, many collectors were able to connect to other collectors who have similar interests. Often, I find myself spending hours on eBay.Â
To me, the variety of collections is very inspirational and a great way to discover different historical or modern cultures and there is so much to learn from. Discovering how and what activities were performed has always brought me new ideas and concepts.

Odile Hainaut - Founder of WantedDesign
Tell us about yourself, where you are from?
I like to introduce myself as a French New Yorker. It is really how I feel! Originally from Paris, I moved 17 years ago to New York with Laurent, my husband, and our 2 kids, 2 and 4 at that time. We came to build the NY office of the Branding/Packaging company he founded in Paris. We didnât know really for how long we will stay there, we thought a few years⌠Our third child is born here, we opened a design Gallery in 2007, I met Claire Pijoulat in 2010 and we founded WantedDesign,  and the truth is we canât stop starting new projects here! So many opportunities. I love the diversity, the energy of New York. This is a city to create, to build, to dream, and to produce projects. We have been living in Manhattan for 17 years, moving from east to west side, and now we just moved to Brooklyn and I love it. I feel really  like home here! We are kind of âNomadeâ, moving quite often. And keeping just the things you really like, the one that have a story. I like all very different kind of objects, from Ceramique de Sevres pieces, to Azambourg Meisenthal glass, Japanese ceramics or simple wood tray that I found in Costa Rica. I like discovering new places, meeting people, this is the most interesting thing: people.Â
What exactly drew you into the world of design, any specific event/anecdote?
I started with Literature and Performing Art, then a bit of Art History and then very much into music. I was exploring all kind of creative expressions. Totally by accident, and actually through music, I started to work in branding and packaging, on the communication part, organizing crazy events and campaigns around fragrances and design. Going to glass manufacturers, fragrances studios, printing companies, I really got into the âmakingâ things, the beauty of craft, the all process from an idea to the materialization of the idea. I particularly fell in love with Glass. I had a chance to work years ago on creating a new fragrance collection inspired by Murano, and  to work with masters like Barbini or Carlo Moretti, going in Murano/Venice quite often. I guess it was really an important experience for me. Very very inspiring. I would resume in saying Curiosity drew me into the world of design. And love.
As a cofounder of Wanted Design, Where do you think Parme Marin stands in terms of design?
Parme Marin seduces me by the African inspiration, the very graphic approach, the color palette and the combination/variety of materials. The softness of leather with stones. the contrast. Â I like that the collections are really envisioned as âparuresâ, as an extension of the clothing, the skin. It is part of it.
What is it about Parme Marin jewelry that brings out your sense of style?
I feel PM jewelry can totally transform and âembellishâ a simple jeans+t shirt. I like the idea of a jewelry that is in fusion with the clothes or the skin. Â
The Parisian question : What is lacking in the design industry these days ? Any idea of what could make a difference?
We need to talk more about Design during the year in the US. Specially to general public. Itâs still very niche, there is not enough visibility in the press, all kind of press, to inspire and educate. We are definitely missing the Home section of the New York times. We are lucky in New York to have great museums like Cooper Hewitt and MAD, presenting to a large audience the various aspects of design. One of our main goal with WantedDesign is certainly to develop more opportunities to talk about design, create a year long forum to connect industry leaders with up and coming designers, educators and students with manufacturers, and retailers with design lovers, for example.
Extraordinary women of the world
I find joy in writing about the people, the diverse cultures and traditions that bring me inspiration. The diversity captivates me.
Looking back at the cultural dresses from all over the world, I am mesmerized when I see the colors, the details, the materials, the layering and mixed prints different people have used over time. The ambience the outfits give off are very cultural and modern at the same time.
Despite the differences between all the people over time, I feel that I have formed a connection with these women. History, traditions and cultures are very important, personally because my father told me about my roots. He felt the need to teach me his traditions that he took pride in, and now I am proud of my origins as well.
I admire the use of big and bold neck pieces that highlight the identity and femininity, and the ability to create style out of the limited options that were once normal. Now, we live in a world where older options are constantly replaced by newer ones. But, back when having only fewer options was the norm, people created more out of what they had.
Just as the times were simple, so was the style, disregarding the many intricate details. People opted for looks that would help them carry out their daily duties. Â
A huge part of my inspiration comes of from different heritages all over the world. In a way these inspirational traditions celebrate difference but also unify different people. It gives me pleasure to channel important people

Sherri Sicurella is a senior designer at Ralph Lauren.
Could you tell us about your background and your actual position?
I studied apparel, textiles & merchandising in college. When I graduated I was lucky enough to get hired right away as a wardrobe stylist for MTV, spike TV, Comedy Central etc.. It was a fun gig for a young fashion lover....traveling, dressing celebrities. But so unstable. I randomly got a call from HR at Ralph Lauren, accepted the interview and have been there for 11 years now! I started as an eager assistant designing men's and women's jeans then moved to men's wovens, to now the senior designer for men's and women's outerwear and men's accessories for the RL label Denim & Supply. I love jackets so designing them super fun. Only prob is, I now own about 100 different ones! It's not a healthy habit nor does my boyfriend get any closet space.
What is your favorite thing to do when you need to find inspiration to design?
It's so cliche but social media has become such a strong source of inspiration these days. I love hopping onto Instagram and seeing what's going on, what are people doing, where are they traveling, what are they buying, what's inspiring them? It's fun to escape your world to pop into someone else's for a moment. And the internet itself has become such a huge source of history and knowledge. I love looking up old runway shows, it's crazy to run down memory lane and see what really was popular back then. At work we just came across Versace & Galliano shows from the early 90's!! It was mind blowing! That was when "super models" really came about...Crawford, Schiffer, Evangelista, Turlington...seeing how designers then mixed novelty with what was relevant at that time has already been a huge inspiration for designing our next collection.
To you, what are the main strengths of Parme Marinâs brand compared to the other brand?
Uniqueness! It's unlike everything else out there. And that's what drew me to it in the first place. I like that all PM's pieces standout from the rest....I want to walk down the street and not look like every one else. Its fun to have something you can't find in a department store.
Imagine youâre stranded on an island with only three of your most treasured fashion pieces, what are they?
My Chanel quilted bag- to me it's the epitome of timeless class. And it was the first major fashion splurge I ever made. I saved and saved and saved for it and knew it'd always represent my hard work and determination and I would never get tired of wearing it.My black Manolo Blahnik heels, they go with everything and are super sexy and actually very comfortable! My suede fringe jacket- it's one of my favorite designs ever and it showcases the inner hippie in me. I sometimes pray for chilly weather just so I have an excuse to wear it. And on that island alone, all 3 pieces would go together beautifully. I may be stranded but damn I'd be looking good!
What kind of Parme Marin necklace would you wear and how?
Ummm, that's a trick question because there's about 10 of them I want right now! But with that being said, there are 3 things I am currently obsessed with....sweatshirts, my denim gas station jumper and anything and everything emerald color. So at the moment I am dying to pair the Trio necklace with my fave sweatshirt, skinny jeans and/or pencil skirt. Or with my denim jumper. Its a win-win all around!
The Parisian question: Do you think the French have a better sense of style than Americans? Where do you think New York stands in the competition, knowing that Paris is also considered to be a fashion powerhouse?
Ha! As a native New Yorker my fellow New Yorkers may stone me for this, but yes I totally think Parisians have a better sense of style. First it's in the way they carry themselves, its all about attitude and owning who you are. French women know how to carry their confidence without being cocky. They understand that fashion shouldn't always be about trends, rather its about choosing timeless, well-cut and classic clothes. Here we tend to loose ourselves to the latest, hottest trend....which is hot today and not so cute tomorrow. Rather it needs to be about what fits best to your body while keeping it classy. However, with that said, I think NY is a close step behind in the fashion race. Â We stay afloat high fashion and we're definitely not afraid to express who we are. We just need to do a better job of marrying the two.

NoĂŠmie Blanchard is the head of leather goods accessories at Narciso Rodriguez.
Where are you from originally and where are you based today?
I am French â I grew up in Paris . I loved it there, I am a real Parisian. A couple of years ago though, I decided that it was time for me to try something new so I moved to New York. I already knew the city well from travels and work trips, and working in Fashion it was a great place to settle in. Here I found such a positive energy and a creativity that is almost overwhelming. I have discovered amazing designers with understated yet striking designs such as Parme Marinâs that would certainly deserve to be known by all.
As an expert, how accessories should enhance an outfit?
The right accessories should lift up the simpler outfit.
As I can sometimes be lazy and I mostly wear basics, I personally love accessories because they would effortlessly yet effectively elevate the most classic look. Â
Rather it is a crazy printed bag, a pair of furry sandals, vintage sunglasses or a piece of statement jewelry, they are here to contrast the outfit but never overpower it, it is a question of balance: The more outstanding the accessory is, the simpler the outfit should be. By contrasting, you create the attention and can bring the focus to a part of your body or outfit you want to highlight.
I would even say that more than your outfit, accessories can enhance your personality.Â
And It can also be a great conversation starter :)
Which accessories do you wear/ use every day?
Of course I always carry a bag. For the everyday, I need it to be practical, I love soft shoulder bags made in beautiful supple leather. To go out or just for a walk on the weekend I would prefer a large pouch. It will always be colorful, printed, geometric or made out of an exquisite material such as rare exotics or even wood!Â
I am also a big jewelry lover. I would stack bracelets and always wear some rings; rather it is one fun chunky ring or some more classic and personal ones that I almost never take off.
I love necklaces, when I wear one I need it to be a statement maker.Â
Could you describe the brand Parme Marin in 3 words?
Eclectic: There is no question Parme Marin draws inspiration from the world around her: from the mixed-culture of the cities she lived in and visited, the modern art and architecture, to the pattern of a vintage clothe or a tiled floor, her creations are the results of many influences.
Raw : One thing that I immediately loved in Parme Marinâs collections is the combination of exceptional raw materials. From smooth leather to glass, wood or even bone, you can tell each element have been thoughtfully hand picked and crafted to respect their natural genuine aspect. Each with their own story, they fit beautifully to create unique pieces.
Bold : From her geometric yet sometimes unbalanced designs to her striking color palette and disruptive use of materials, everything in Parme Marinâs creations feel strong, different and innovative.
What is your Parme Marinâs favorite?
If I have to choose only one, I would go for the "Buffle" unique piece. It is such a work of art, I love his native American appeal, while it also makes me travel to old cities of Spain.
"Masque 2" is also one of my favorite pieces; it is such a striking design.  I love the graphic combination of pebbled leather and natural wood adorned by blocks of colorful blue and yellow resin.
I also love when she plays with metal and architectural figures, all her rings are to die for. I had a sneak peak into her upcoming collection of pouches and I can tell they are the next accessories to covet !
The Parisian question : Walking in the streets , what is for you the accessory that is often badly worn ?Â
One thing I have noticed in the street of NY is how women here love big pieces of jewelry, like big chunky necklaces. No harm into that on the contrary, I am always impressed how New Yorkers do not hesitate to take risks and think different when it comes to the wardrobe. But when combined with all your jewelry box and your craziest printed dress that is way too much. I am no fashion queen, but when you start looking like youâre heading to a Mardi Gras party, that should be a good sign you are overdoing it. Â
Maybe it is just Parisian girls who are boring, but we all grew up with one rule : Less is more.
To keep it chic, proportion is key : better pair it with smaller pieces and showcase it against a plain top. Also, prefer a clutch to a shoulder bag as you donât want to overwhelm your shoulder.

Britt is a photographer and videographer. She worked for many brands including PARME MARIN of course ;)
Where did you grow up? In what kind of family?
In Texas and Indiana... Heartland of the USA. Raised by my mom Louise and big sister Blake.
How would you describe Parme Marinâs universe if it were a set?
Absolute first image that comes to mind is the film, Tarsem Singhâs âThe Fallâ. The Parme Marin pieces would be growing off the trees and coming to life!
What is your Parme Marin favorite shot? Why?
Love this shot! And this series in general really reminds me of modern day Princess Leia in âStar Warsâ crossed with âAmazon Women from the Moon!â :))
Do you wear more timeless pieces or very trendy ones ?
Timeless!
What kind of Parme Marin piece would you be ? (Bone bracelets, wood necklace, chocker, silver architectural ring)
I definitely identify with the Giraf Woman necklace (WOW!) and the Luanda necklace (POW!) from the unique pieces collection!
How would you wear a Parme Marin necklace? Describe the outfit.
Black dress with orange and green NEON accents, along with the Luanda necklace. And Iâd rock it at least 4 times a week! Like a uniform! :)))
You are very ballsy when It come to dressing up. You always have your own way of looking different and great! How does it work in your industry? Did you ever get weird comments?
Actually I was on set today and realized how sloppy I am in my -"appearance." I wear plenty of loud prints because I just cannot seem to avoid it. It's almost like they choose me!! The louder the print, the more layers I can layer, more comfortable I feel.
And Indeed it is quite bold in my industry to wear loud and layers outfits when I'm surrounded my the ultra sleek and chic.
Sometimes I feel like a 12 year old next to most of the stylists and creative directors I work with. But I can't seem to avoid it despite my serious attempts to do so.Â
The gaudier the better.
What I have found however is because I am so comfortable in my outlandish outfits, people dig it! and they in fact don't think it looks at all sloppy.
It's the contrast of a refined and friendly attitude against loud statement pieces that could otherwise seem sloppy that make them just ... Genuine.
And genuine is beautiful.
Being confident, competent, polite and READY I think are all quite complimentary to my layered messiness :)
