Lied, you get Crackpot lore even though I’m brain dead atm

Basically, I like to think that part of the reason he wears his anti-dissonance helmet is because his face underneath is horribly mutilated. I mentioned on an insta story a million years ago about how I like to think there could’ve been some sort of workplace incident that gave him extreme dissonance exposure at once. Maybe a prototype for the divergence engine went awry and completely combusted, leading to every scientist within close proximity to get hit full front and take the most impact. You see images of Crackpot, Hofnarr, and Jeb seemingly working together at some point, so what if it was on the divergence engine before the incident? After the incident, Crackpot strays away from it first because personally I wouldn’t want to be near a machine that tried to wipe me off the face of the planet okay. This eventually leads to the events of him showing up in arena mode perhaps, maybe not long after the incident? Obviously from there he gets wind of Enmeshment tech and starts his own program…and then plays major fault in Nexus City’s downfall.

Anyways, back to his face and the exposure. I also like to think he just didn’t like his face in general beforehand, and especially afterwards. So when he got his hands on the anti-dissonance helmet, he never really took it off. He would rather die than show his face anywhere. If for some reason his helmet needed repairing, he’d rather come to work with a paper bag over his head or maybe just not show up at all (he wouldn’t, he has a reputation to uphold! He wouldn’t miss a day!!). To me, he’s one of those characters that their mask/helmet is their face, like I couldn’t picture him with a face (I can, I just never draw it/picture him like that in my head, it feels wrong.)

And a silly, completely unrelated headcanon (for shits and giggles) is that his name is actually Fence. Like, not an alias, it’s actually just his name. I know that he gets it in arena mode bc of where his setup is, but the concept of it being his actual legal name is funny to me. Imagine some kind of au where he’s got parents and they just..didn’t care what to name him. “What should we name him?” The other parent looks around vaguely, eyeing a fence in the distance from a window, “Fence…” “Sure, why not.”
