When the other looks him over, Aku's grin slips off his face and his expression becomes something like guilty, sheepish anticipation. Yeah, he knows he's been gone a long time, and frankly, he couldn't blame Duke if the vampire decided he wanted to throw him out on his ear for leaving him alone without so much as an 'I'm going to go get some milk at the grocery store,'

So much has happened since the last time he saw him, yet one thing remains constant. And that's how he felt. The kindness and familiarity in Duke's touch, the sadness in his eyes after Aku's long absence, the yearning in his voice. Something in Aku's chest clenches, and he reaches for him before he can stop himself, large hands cupping Duke's face and brushing his thumbs over his cheeks with such tenderness.

"'Darling,'" Aku echoed stupidly, the words coming out strained. Hey, what's he getting so choked up for? It's only been a few years. A few years in the immortal span of things was like a blink of an eye. But it still felt like so long since he'd held Duke. So long since he'd seen him or spoken to him. He half expected him to move on. But here he is, and he still waited. But that's just it. Why would someone so wonderful waste their time waiting for him?

"I'm surprised you'd still call me that, after all this time," he said, rushing his words. "I— I can't tell you how much I missed you."

And that was no exaggeration. He really couldn't put the words to it. Now that he's by him, it's like the past two years without him are crashing down all at once. All those long nights without Duke beside him, wondering if he even still thought of him, or how he'd take to his eventual return. Remembering the real affection in his voice and in his touch that Aku was unsure he'd ever be privileged enough to receive from a partner again.

He kissed him. The kiss is ungraceful and hard, and hungry. Duke's mouth is warm, his touch is heaven, and Aku sprouts more arms just to pull him in close. His breath shuddered in his chest as he surrendered to the moment. He knew how it felt to be so obsessed with someone, only for them to walk away like it all meant nothing. Duke's forgiveness is more than he could've possibly hoped for. But would they be able to continue from where they left off? Aku certainly hoped they would.

ooc ★ Anyways. Didn't really feel safe here for a while, but I'm starting to feel a bit better, so uhhh... let's hope it stays that way and I don't have to go back on hiatus for my mental health. Aku seemed to realize what he said and glanced away. Speaking of making telling remarks, he’d never actually voiced such awareness and enablement aloud before. That he knew people were using him for his money and didn’t truly have feelings for him at numerous points along the way. Being with Duke had felt nothing at all like those other arrangements— where his partners would hardly deign to touch him without some guarantee for monetary or material compensation.

He quickly recovered from this telling honesty and continued, “I cannot help but wonder, if you would have cared for me back then in a genuine sense, or if I would only be good for my money. Perhaps things would have been simpler between us, if that were so.”
