TBH cross my heart, and forgive me if this essay i'm about to write is totally delusional.... i think they aren't dating and won't until wayyy into their 20s if even then, and get married soon after.... rinne takes this idol thing serious enough to kind of follow the no dating rule, AND another thing he does take seriously in life is niki, at the end of the day. while rinne is chaotic he is also very strong willed and goal-oriented (to a selfish fault).

but as niki and himeru both constantly note, rinne loves breaking rules also; so that's where the occasional slip up happens - i hc rinniki being semi aware of each others feelings but also being WARY about them and kind of downplaying them as a way to protect their own hearts n goals... and that's so juicy and what makes this interesting, isn't it! yearning with the occasional crash..! they're serious enough about each other to know that this is it, this is the big love, so in a way idk if they'd be in a hurry to establish anything at all until they stop being idols. niki also knows how srs rinne is about his work so he respects it and seems pretty content with life anyway. in my experience when you've fallen in love with your best friend of years you're not really in a hurry to date bc being around them is sooo rewarding in itself, and lines between where you end and the other starts are blurry anyway...... am i resting my head on them platonically? romantically? does it matter as long as we're together?

but it's also very entertaining to think about the roundabout ways they'd be trying to establish something without saying it out loud LOL especially rinne 

so in the end i think i hc them similarly to as you do, as not being established but still kind of... merged together over time and slowly, naturally; with no big confession moment. first time they address it is an unremarkable moment in the kitchen, probably.

ALSO in his FS1 story the other bees talk about some things like how he organizes meetings to cheer up the other members, was exited to show off his exclusive outfit to them first, calls them to play mahjong at Cinnamon, and bought the bees presents with money he won and he gets all flustered and denies it because he doesn't wanna be seen as soft for anyone

he puts up this act of self centered-ness when he's genuinely one of the most caring people in the game,, and he gets thrown off when people actually think highly of him. In Asobi when he's with the group looking for the traditional toys stuff, he suggests something and then compliments himself, to which Shinobu agrees with him and he gets flustered
