“Is it still painful?”

There’s a solemness to his tone unnatural of the general; a man so used to shouting and growling, now speaking with a softness that expresses care. His eyes don’t move from the other, his heart torn by the reality of their horror. 

There’s regret in his voice, anguish that would match their own. Words he’d not speak or spoken to anybody else - questions he’d never ask. 

Alas, he is compelled and he’s curious, there’s no sarcasm in his voice, no malice or mockery. Only concern.

“After all of these years - it still hurts you?”

        “Heidegger...” he heard those words, his heart twisting painfully in his chest as he looked away and sighed. “Yes.. It still hurts.” he finally admitted, leaning against the wall and closing his eyes, while he’d set new people in charge and unrelenting in how he was to be treated, the respect he would be shown?        “It will likely always hurt... How he treated me, how he treated my mother...” the young president stated so quietly. “How he treated my brother and who knows how many brothers and sisters I even actually have...” closes his eyes once more, pain etched on his features.        “What made me so special... Compared to my siblings.”
