I like OMORI but god the combat is so disappointing, especially for a route which combat is practically the only thing you're doing.
I've been playing the Omori Route since I've been wanting to play that but never got around to it, and I remembered the game being fairly difficult when I originally played the Sunny Route back in 2021. Imagine my surprise when I realized I just had a giant skill issue the entire time and all of the bosses in the "main route" of the game are pathetically easy.
When I got to the actual Omori Route stuff, I expected post-game content to be really hard like how Expedition 33's post-game was piss hard, so I set up. I grinded to 50, I beat the Somethings in the Lost Library for the 3 funny skills, got the Tenderizer and spared Abbi to get the ultimate gear.... only to realize, yet again, this game's too easy.
I think OMORI has a good narrative, but god does it fail at being a turn-based RPG. It has really good ideas - I like the emotion system and some of the bosses utilize it well to the best of their ability (Space Ex-Husband and Sweetheart mostly), but most of the time it's used like an afterthought. Like "oh shit, I forgot emotions existed, uhh... let's have the boss switch emotions around every once in a while." but is immediately countered by having the fastest unit reapply the emotion the party had two seconds ago.
I particularly enjoy the Humphrey fight, it sells the hopelessness of being trapped in a whale's stomach very well. Problem: he does literally nothing significant and takes like maybe 15 minutes to beat cause of his large HP pool and 3 phases.
Idk. I think the combat could've been more engaging, at least in the Omori Route where you're stuck in Headspace for 98% of the game.
