De Kelley was 20 years older than me, and when TOS was on the air, I was one of those fans who loved him but thought of him as “old.” In the late 60s, I was embarrassed by Bones’ love scenes with Natira; I thought, “Ugh, Bones is almost as old as my dad.” Once I met De, though, I began seeing Bones differently, because holy wow was he charming.  Charming charming charming. Still old (to me then), but De radiated charisma that was just not possible to capture on screen. Those eyes were unforgettable. The way he talked real slow. When he smiled at you, your heart did the Bones Bounce. And when HE did the Bones Bounce … well, it’s just not a thing you could ever forget.
