Always Keep Fighting

OKAY. This is my poem about watermelon. 

It’s titled: 

“Nice Mellons.”

You are so wet

So pink

I want to burry my face in you.

And swallow

I nominate @seafoxfire (Shantal) to receive a prize and choose a charity to help out. This girl has been such a phenomenal human being since the moment I met her at Vancon 2015. Only recently have we really gotten to know each other, though. 

Shantal is by far one of the strongest people I have ever met in my life. This 20 year old little fireball has survived medical issues that I can’t even begin to understand, lives in this huge city all by herself, and still always greets me with a huge smile on her face. Her strength is rock solid, and then some. 

About a month ago, she moved into my apartment building, just four doors down from me. Neither of us knew, until she posted a picture on Facebook and I recognized the apartment because it looked exactly like mine. Since then, we’ve become the closest of friends. If one of us is having a rough night, we head over to the other’s apartment and hang out for a while, and we always end up having such nice, understanding talks, and at some point cause ourselves to be heeled over, in tears from laughing so hard at something. 

I’ve lived here for a year and a half, all by myself, since the day I aged out of foster care. And I have been so stupidly lonely. But since Shantal has been here, I have honestly been so much happier. For the first time in maybe ever, I feel like I have a real friend. Shantal gave me that, just by being her sweet, genuine self.
