CANCELLED the bold, red letters glowed, tauntingly next to Callies flight number. “Great.” She sighed, readjusting the backpack that hung off her shoulders, it weighed a ton and was starting to make her neck ache. She rotated her head slowly, hoping that would ease the discomfort.
“If your flight has been cancelled please report to the closest information desk.” A polite but stern voice rang out over the airport intercom. Callie glanced around until she spotted the desk with an INFORMATION sign above it and made her way over, her fingers crossed in hopes she’d be able to get a flight out of here tonight.
It was Christmas Eve and Callie was leaving college later than she usually would at this time of year, but with graduation around the corner, she had to be on top of her studies.
“Ma’am, I’m sorry but there are no flights to Minnesota tonight. The weather is too bad.” Callie was third in line at the desk but it sounded like whoever was at the front was supposed to be on the same flight as her.
Just my luck Callie thought to herself as her eyes drifted to a near by window. Snow was falling at a thick and fast rate, outside was a blur of white and grey, she could just about make out the planes in the distance, stationary on the tarmac. It was no surprise all flights were halted.
Callies roommate had taken her to the airport before beginning her own drive home, she sent her a quick text, checking that she was OK in the blizzard like conditions. With no flights home and no car to get her back to campus, Callie began to mentally prepare herself for a night in the airport. The very busy airport. This was Callies worst nightmare, she was exhausted from a busy semester and just wanted to be at home with her family and sleeping in an actual bed, not a stiff plastic chair.
The person at the front of the line, gathered their belongings. Pushing Callie closer to the desk, she was going to enquire about nearby hotels, hopeful for a hot shower and soft mattress.
“Callie?” The senior heard her name in a familiar accent and she immediately knew who was trying to get her attention. She should have guessed. Who else would leave it this late to go home for the holidays? A student-athlete, preparing for graduation and a WNBA draft, thats who.
“Paige.” Callies response was curt and cold, the opposite of how things used to be between her and Paige.
“No flights to Minnesota.” Paige stated, it was awkward and made Callie subconsciously frown, she hated how weird things had gotten between the two girls.
The air between them was filled with an awkward silence but Callie removed herself from the line, her and Paige were no longer friends but she wasn’t about to be rude. Paige cleared her throat, obviously feeling the same as Callie in the moment, “Well, I’m driving back to campus if you want a ride.” Paige tells Callie as she stuffs her hands in her pockets. Her big, blue eyes were the same, soft and warm as Callie remembered them as they stared at her for the first time in months.
Callie was reluctant, she hadn’t spoken to Paige in almost a year, let alone be confined in a small space for an extended amount of time with her. “I mean…unless you have your own car here?” Callie shook her head immediately, “No, I don’t.” “Right, lets go then.” Paige announced turning and beginning to walk. “Only if you’re sure.” Callie said, having to quicken her usual pace to keep up with the basketball players large strides. Paige turned her head so she was looking at Callie, “I’m hardly going to leave you stranded at the airport, C.”
Paige and only Paige called Callie ‘C’ and hearing it again after so long almost made Callie stop in her tracks but she pushed through, not wanting to make this already weird situation any weirder.
The frosty air hit the girls as soon as they stepped outside of the airport, making them shiver simultaneously. The wind was picking up speed, sending small snowflakes flying at them, Callie could feel the tiny specs as they landed on her face and melted into her skin. It took all of three seconds for Paiges cheeks and nose to turn a shade of soft pink and her wispy flyaways to become littered with the icy flakes, making her hair sparkle any time light touched it.
The headlights of a nearby car flashed as Paige pointed a key in its direction. She had a new car. This wasn’t the car Callie had spent hours in. This wasn’t the car Paige would pick Callie up and drop her to class in. This wasn’t the car they had their final conversation in, where Callie fought back tears as she closed the door for the last time. Maybe a new car was good. No memories, no nostalgia, no history.
“Buckle.” Paige instructed simply and it felt as if no time had passed between the girls in the past eleven months. Callie, stupidly hated wearing a seatbelt and every time they were in the car together, Paige would refuse to start the ignition before Callie put it on. There would always be a back and forth of Callie saying she doesn’t need to wear it and Paige insisting that she did. Today, Callie pulled the buckle over herself and plugged it in without any arguments. A lot had changed in the past year including the fact that Callie had grown up and come to realise, road safety was important.
It didn’t take long for the warm air blowing out of the vents to spread around the car and both of the girls were grateful that they were no longer shivering. Conversation was kept to a minimum but no one was surprised. There was a very large elephant the room but Callie and Paiges’ stubbornness combined overrode any need or want for a conversation to happen.
Callie was texting her roommate after she replied to Callie letting her know she was safe and almost home when she felt the car glide to left. Her eyes shot up from her phone to find Paige gripping the steering wheel with both hands correcting the position. She could feel Callies stare, “That was not my fault.” The blonde took one hand of the wheel to hold it up in innocence, “Ok well, eyes on the road and both hands on the wheel please, P.” It was easier for the pair to fall back into old habits than they would both like to admit.
The drive from Bradley International Airport back to campus was about forty five minutes depending on traffic and how fast you were going. Paige was purposely driving slower than usual because of the conditions and keeping a healthy distance from the car in front of her. They’d been driving for twenty minutes when Paiges voice called out, filled with panic, “Shit!” The car glided to left like earlier but it was harder for Paige to regain control this time. Her hands worked fast and hard on the steering wheel as she battled to straighten the car to keep her and Callie safe. “Paige, what the fuck!” Callie was equally as panicked as she grabbed onto the car door to steady herself. “It’s not my fault Callie, there must be ice on the road. I’m trying!” As the car continued to slide, Paige worked harder to try and control it.
It felt as though the ordeal lasted five minutes but it was more like forty seconds before the car began to drive like normal again and both girls could breathe a sigh of relief. “Theres a motel half a mile up. Pull over. I don’t feel like dying tonight.” Callie held up her phones map app but Paige didn’t dare look…or argue.
The motel was exactly as you’d expect it. Broken lights, mismatched doors and a deserted parking lot. Paige had told Callie to stay in the car while she enquired about a room and Callie wasn’t complaining. The weather was rapidly getting worse, snow was already building up on the parked car and with the heat now off, the cold air was creeping in. Callie watched as Paige jogged to the motel reception. The blonde was all legs and always had been but Callie swore she had gotten taller. She had a distinctive walk, like most basketball players - Paige called it swagger. Less than five minutes later, she was walking back towards the car dangling a key in front of her. “Ready for a sleepover?” She smiled opening Callies door for her. Callie just rolled her eyes in response.
“There was a time when you’d laugh at my jokes C.” Paige said as they placed their bags down in the small, oddly decorated motel room. “Times have changed.” Callie looked around, the room was cold and had one very dim lamp that let off a murky, yellow glow. The bedsheets were- the bed…singular. “One bed, really?” Callie glared at Paige. “I wasn’t given an option. The guy barely spoke two words to me. Took my card, handed me the key and put his headphones back on.” Callie tilted her head to the side as if to say yeah right. “Go there for yourself, see how chatty he is for you.” Callie picked up her bag, “I will.” Paige watched as the stubborn girl walked towards the door, she lifted her hand to turn the handle, “Wait…don’t. He was kinda weird. I’ll go if you’re really bothered about the bed.” Paige offered and something softened inside of Callie. Times had changed but Paige was still the same Paige, still Callies Paige. They’d shared a bed before, they could do it again. “You better not snore.” Callie remarked, turning around and dropping her bag once again. “I don’t snore!” “Yes P, yes you do.”
With the lamp switched off, the room was plunged into darkness. The thin curtains just about blocked out the shine of the street lights outside. The girls had left a holy amount of space between them with their backs to each other. Unbeknownst to either of them, they both silently willed themselves to hurry up and fall asleep. Paige did her best at counting sheep but she never knew what that actually meant. Where were the sheep? And how many were there actually supposed to be? Thinking about it only made her feel more awake. She huffed to herself and flipped over. She now had a view of the back of Callie. Her dark brown hair was twisted into a bun, escaped strands laid in tight curls at the nape of her neck. Paige had never felt a visceral need to say something as much as she did in this moment.
“I’m sorry.” She whispered gently. Callie could be asleep and Paige could have just apologised to the void but the blonde girl had laid in this position many times before to know that the way Callies body rose and fell as she breathed, meant she was still awake. “For what?” Callies response was almost instant and had an immediate effect on Paiges usually steady heat rate. “The way I treated you. It wasn’t fair.” Paige admitted into the darkness. Callie closed her eyes slowly and savoured the moment, she had given up all hope of ever hearing this from Paige. “I wasn’t asking for much. I just wanted my friend.” Callies voice was quiet and vulnerable. She had never told Paige how she truly felt about their friendship falling apart.
At the time, she was angry and stubborn and mirrored Paiges nonchalant attitude but it hurt. “I know. I was so caught up with school and basketball. I needed to focus on that. I didn’t realise how much collateral damage there would be.” Paige had a lot of work to do last semester, she was technically still coming back from an injury and she had to graduate so between studying and hooping, her free time was minimal. “It felt and looked like I was the only person you exiled. I took it personally Paige.” Callie needed this conversation to be face to face, looking at the motel wall, with wallpaper peeling from the corners was slightly off putting. She turned to lay on her back at first, from her peripherals she could see Paige, already laid on her side, eyes directly on Callie, she could feel them burning into her, begging almost. Callie turned again, this time to fully face Paige and even in darkness of the room, Paiges eyes were as bright as ever. Callie kept her love for Paiges eyes no secret, the way they changed tones in different light and the sensitivity of her pupils which made her eyes look as though they would change shape was mesmerising.
Paiges mind was reeling, she could physically feel the cogs turning as she took in the sight in front of her. Callie was staring at her, most likely waiting for a response but Paige was struggling to find words as her eyes darted between Callies features. Her perfectly shaped eye brows, her eyes, protected by the longest and thickest lashes, her button nose, pierced on one side - that was new - her lips, glossy with balm, her skin, the warmest shade of caramel. Paige was in a trance. Callies lips were moving so she must have been talking but Paige couldn’t hear a thing.
“Paige?” Frustration was evident in Callies voice, “Was it only me? Did you only push me away?” She was desperate for an answer and Paige felt terrible because it was only Callie she had treated like this. “I’m sorry Callie, I really am. I just needed to focus.” Paige sounded equally as frustrated, not because she was mad at Callie but because she was mad at herself. “Can you stop fucking saying that? Like I was some sort of distraction. I’ve always wanted whats best for you. I would’ve helped you study, hell I would’ve been in the gym with you if that’s what you needed.” Callie was sat up in bed now, the covers thrown off. “I know you would have. That’s not it. You don’t understand.” Callies rolled her eyes, “Explain it to me then.” She had twisted her entire body so she was fully facing Paige who was still lying down.
“I needed to focus on school and basketball.” Callie audibly groaned, “I get that Paige! Focus, focus-” Paige cut off her ramble, “I couldn’t focus if you were a part of my life.” Ouch. That confession hit Callie like a truck, “Why?” Her question was quiet almost as if she didn’t want to hear the response. “Because if you were in my life Callie, there’s no way in hell you wouldn’t be my number one priority.”
The silence that followed was deafening, neither girls dared to move, let alone speak. The rhythmic tick of the bedside clock was the only sound in the room and of course the rapid thuds of both girls hearts as they digested what Paige has just said.
“What are you saying Paige?” Callie was first to speak, she had to. The silence was killing her and she needed Paige to stop talking in riddles. “Isn’t it obvious?” Callie shook her head, she had an idea of what Paige was saying, she knew what she wanted Paige to be saying but she needed Paige to actually say it. “It’s you Callie, it’s always been you.” Paige was also sat up now, the need to sleep, a distant memory. “I’m sorry Paige, you need to be really clear with what you’re saying.” Callie was so scared to be hurt again, she needed the cold, hard facts only. “I am in love with you Callie and I’m stupid for waiting this long to say that.”
Paige shuffled closer to Callie, closing the gap between them, Callies sweet, vanilla scent encapsulating her in a warm hug. “Say something.” Paige pleaded, reaching out her hand to place on Callies knee. “You are stupid for waiting this long.” Callie said, allowing her eyes to drift back to Paiges after being focused on her nails as if they were the most interesting thing on earth. Paige chuckled, the mood lightening instantly and Callie joined in, the sound of their giggles joined together in harmony and Callie let her body to fall slack into Paiges and the pair embraced each other, an embrace they had waited almost a year for. It was warm and sweet, Callies face pressed into Paiges neck, Paiges arms wrapped around Callies frame where they belonged. Despite missing their flights, the girls felt like they had made it home.
Paige put her mouth to Callies ear, “Can I kiss you?” The question was genuine and soft, Paiges voice had dropped several octaves and her warm breath tickled Callies neck. “Yes.” Callie breathed out, pulling back. The girls were face to face. Mere inches apart. Both had yearned for this moment for longer than they’d ever admit. Paiges gaze moved in a triangular manner - from Callies eyes to her lips and back again. She ran her tongue across her own lips as if she was starving and staring at her favourite meal. Her fingers gently grazed Callies cheek, following the sharp line of her jaw, before stopping on her dimpled chin. The world around them cut to silence, the ticking of the clock seemed to stop, the howling of the wind was no longer, it was just them.
Leaning in, Paige rested her forehead against Callies, their noses brushed and then finally their lips met. It was electric and magical and Paige could taste the fruity lip-balm that Callie was wearing and it only heightened the sensation in her stomach. It wasn’t butterflies because Paige wasn’t nervous, it was more like fireworks, a fuck ton of them, all going off at once.
Callies mind was completely fuzzy and incoherent, if she tried to speak she knew she wouldn’t be able to so she continued to kiss Paige, pushing it deeper, making it hotter. She slid her tongue into Paiges mouth, earning a short, sharp gasp and Callie could have melted right there on the motel bed, becoming one with the sheets. Paiges tongue was relaxed and submissive as Callie had her way, toying and sucking and finally nipping.
With her tongue in between Callies teeth, something inside if Paige flicked like a switch, she had waited far too long to be dominated in this moment. She used her athletic strength to lift and lay Callie flat on the mattress, their kiss broke but both girls just smiled at each other, lips swollen and cheeks flushed, “You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to do this.” Paige admitted, staring down at Callie, laid beneath her, chest rising and falling in pure exhilaration. “Then show me.” Callie responded, eyes low and needy and Paige had to close her own eyes and breathe deeply to stop herself from ripping Callies pyjamas off immediately. She wanted to savour this moment.
Despite this, Paige was only human and it didn’t take long for her to be untying the string that held Callies pants up. She was slow and intentional with her movements, her fingers grazing Callies thighs as she pulled her pants down, leaving goosebumps in her wake. Callie was wearing pale pink, lace panties, sheer enough for Paige to see what she wanted so bad but opaque enough for Paige to want them gone immediately. She ran her fingers lightly over the fabric and watched as Callie did her best to suppress a shiver, Paige smirked and repeated the movement, the blonde relished in having control. This time Callie didn’t bother trying to hide her reaction, she opened her legs wider, a breathy moan falling from her lips.
Paige lowered her head until her lips reached Callies leg and she pressed sloppy open mouthed kisses across her skin, travelling further up after each one. Up her thigh, over the waistband of her panties, she had to push her t-shirt up to reach her stomach and finally her tits bounced free. Paige was in a state of absolute overwhelm. With Callies perky tits just inches away, taunting her, she wanted them in her mouth, but she also wanted her hand around her neck, tongues battling together, she wanted her fingers buried deep inside of her, she wanted to taste Callie, she wanted her dripping off her chin she wanted to flip her over and fuck her, face down, ass up with those messy curls gripped in her hand. “Fuck.” Paige groaned out, she wanted her in every way possible, all at once.
Paige didn’t even feel like she made the decision, her body did it for her because the next thing she knew, her fingers were pumping in and out of Callie at an ungodly pace. “P…fuck…please.” Callies words were heavy and thick, lost in the pleasure of Paige finally fucking her. “Tell me what you want C, I want you to say it.” Finally getting to have Callie like this was everything and more to Paige and she wanted to do exactly what Callie needed her to do. “Just don’t stop…please.” Callie whined bucking her hips to feel Paige deeper. Paige wasn’t about to stop, she had only just started.
The moans that tumbled out of Callies mouth made her count her lucky stars that she was in a random motel room and not back in her dorm. Paige had slipped a third finger inside of Callie and had her lips pursed tightly over her swollen clit. As she sucked and swirled her tongue in a figure of 8, Callies hands fell to Paiges head, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to pull Paige closer or push her away. The sheer pressure that was building in Callies lower abdomen was making her dizzy but she had a fervent need for more. It was as if Callies grasp on the girls blonde locks spurred her on because her movements intensified. Her slender fingers hooking up and around, reaching that oh so sweet spot that made Callies eyes roll. With Paiges tongue spread flat and lapping at the leaking juices, “I’m gonna-gonna come.” Callie had lost all control, her head flung back, sinking deeper into the pillow, she couldn’t hold on any longer. “I want to feel it C. Come for me like the good girl I know you are.” Paiges sensual words of encouragement pushed Callie right to the brink of release and with one last curled flick of her tongue, Callie came undone but Paige didn’t stop. Her fingers slowed down but they stayed inside and her tongue hungrily licked up Callies release.
Callies naked body looked as if it was glowing, beads of sweat made her skin look like silk, baby hairs stuck to her forehead, lips slightly parted as she came down from the highest of highs. She looked like a god damn oil painting.
“Need to feel you. Now.” Paige had just experienced heaven and she wanted more, the wet patch in her boxers said as much. She made light work of removing her underwear in a swift, one handed movement. Callies mind raced as she watched Paige pull her t-shirt over her head, exposing her toned stomach and bulging biceps and the low groan in the back of her throat let Paige know she was enjoying the view. “All off.” Paige knew what Callie was telling her, even with minimal words and she removed her bra with just as much ease as her shirt.
Callies eyes were fixated on the dips and contours of Paiges muscular body, the way each individual muscle flexed depending on her movements, she laid at her mercy, heart still pounding as Paige manoeuvred their bodies, core to core. The contact on her already sensitive cunt made Callie gasp and grip onto Paige, “You good C?” Paige checked in, staying as still as possible. Callie nodded in response and held Paige as close and as tight as possible, their slickness melting into one big puddle, making it easy to start a smooth rhythmic grinding. “Jesus Callie, you feel so good.” Paige breathed out, her head was nestled into Callies neck and she took it in turns sucking and nipping at her sensitive skin.
Callie knew there would be a mark but she didn’t care, she was drunk on the warmth that was being created as they rubbed their sopping cunts together. Back and forth, up and down, with each movement their wetness could be heard. The two girls were in their own fucked out world and they were loving it. Callie slipped a hand between them, her freshly manicured fingertips, landing on Paiges peaked nipple. She pinched and tugged at the sensitive nub and allowed her mouth to fall to Paiges jaw. She wanted this moment to last forever. The saltiness of Paiges sweat on her tongue, her hard nipple in between her fingers, her wetness coating her thighs. Callie had decided if this was her last moment on earth, she would die a happy woman.
“Paige…” Callie choked out, she was already tired from her previous orgasm and she wasn’t sure hold much longer she could hold herself together, “I know baby.” Paige could read her mind, she was about to come, she could feel it from the way she pulsed and clenched against her. “Not until I say so though, OK?” Paige knew Callie in every way possible so she knew the curly haired girl, biting down on her shoulder could last just a little longer. “Can be a good girl for me, can’t you?” Paige asked, pulling Callies head back by her bun so she could look in her eyes.
Callie couldn’t speak, if she did, she would come there and then and she wanted to be a good girl for Paige, thats all she wanted so she nodded her head, eyes beginning to water from the intense need to let go but not being able to.
Paige didn’t release Callies hair, she held her there, not breaking eye contact as she felt that familiar tightness in her stomach, like a band on the verge of snapping. “Used to- fuck- used to dream about this C. Fucking you senseless-” Paige kept interrupting herself with the filthiest of moans, “You’re mine now aren’t you C?” “Y-yes.” Callies voice was unrecognisable, “Yes what?” Paiges hand moved from Callies hair to her jaw, “Yes Paige, I’m yours.” Those words were all Paige needed to hear, it was as if all of her dreams had come true at once. “That’s my girl. Now come with me.” Paige tried her best to remain dominant but her words came out breathy and choked, it was impossible for her to keep any composure.
With their legs intertwined, bare chests pressed together, clammy with each other’s sweat, both girls let go. Their bodies tensing before erupting into staggered shakes, Callie pressed herself further into Paige as her second orgasm jolted through her. “Holy fuck, P.” She cried out, her nails digging in and dragging down Paiges bare back. “Callie…shit…that’s it, so fucking good.” With her hand still pulling on Callies hair Paige grunted and groaned through her climax.
There’s something about those initial moments post sex that speak volumes without needing any words at all. Callie knew Paige well but this was the first time she was experiencing her in this manner. As she gently untangled their bodies and pulled the covers over the pair, wrapping her arms around Callie and pressing a kiss to her forehead, Callie came to the conclusion that she could cry. A sensitive, quiet moment after such an intense act was the highest form of love and respect in Callies opinion. “I love you Paige.” Muffled and tired, Callie finally said those three words and as the digital clock shone, 1:23AM, it feeling like Christmas morning wasn’t just a metaphor.
