Sometimes theories can go too far because why are some of you actually entertaining the possibility of a reveal of Will actually being bisexual and praising it saying it would be fun and make more sense for Will to be bi as opposed to Mike as if it would be a good thing and make sense? There's making theories and then there's just being insensitive and borderline homophobic. Will's sexuality that was written in at the very first concepts and him not liking girls is so integral to his character and is not something to be played around with.
For some reason i'm getting second hand anger from seeing the bullshit meljays say to jayviks and i'm literally engaging in arguments for a fandom i'm not even in. Like i'm cryinggg why are they exactly like milevens
I'm irritated
They weren't originally going to write a conversation between mike and will about his coming out but they were still going to have that abyss scene of him reassuring Mike about El

That awkward moment when your ship is so bland and trash that you have to make up one half being suicidal over his brief teenage relationship dying when in reality he's moving on and living life just fine and dandy
Yeah i'm sure mike is killing himself over this immature middle school ass relationship LMFAO
Mike enjoyed the shit outta that nice lasagna after having fun with his friends!
Btw the use of “Purple Rain” in the ST5 finale is downright emotional manipulation. It’s a cue to “start crying now.” The Duffers knew that song is one of the most beautiful and emotional songs ever written and deliberately spent most of their budget on the rights to use it just so that it would squeeze enough tears out of the audience to gaslight them into thinking Mike and El’s relationship was ever anywhere near as deep and profound as the song.
m*leven isn’t just a weak ship, it’s a textbook example of how aggressively a narrative can cling to heteronormativity even when every cinematic, emotional, and character driven signal is pointing in the opposite direction. from a film and tv standpoint, it’s maddening to watch a relationship so thoroughly built on conformity be treated like it carries any genuine emotional weight. the entire thing operates on prefab genre shorthand: boy saves girl, boy gets girl, first love framing, the whole stale package. none of it emerges from who mike and el actually are; it’s imposed on them because the story wants a default straight romance, even when the text itself keeps rejecting that shape.
the craft issues are glaring. the blocking isolates them instead of developing them. the emotional beats are mismatched. the performances look constrained, like the actors are being forced into a tone that doesn’t align with the characters’ arcs. the camera refuses to participate, no warmth, no curiosity, no intimacy. the compositions are stiff, the eyelines don’t land, and the scenes feel like they’re trying to convince you something is there rather than revealing anything real. it’s not subtext; it’s text desperately trying to overwrite subtext that’s already doing something else entirely.
and that’s where the anger sits: the relationship isn’t just bland, it’s creatively dishonest. it demands that both characters suppress their actual emotional trajectories to maintain a predetermined narrative function. that’s not romance, that’s narrative stagnation. it’s not secretly radical, it’s the purest form of heteronormative conformity, executed with a flatness that makes its lack of sincerity impossible to ignore. the result is a relationship that reads as toxic not because the characters are malicious, but because the writing forces them into roles that actively undermine their growth.
the truth is simple: m*leven is bland, hollow, and structurally hostile to the story’s own emotional logic. it’s not genuine, it’s not compelling, and it’s not doing anything interesting, it’s just the show clinging to the safest, most conventional option even when everything else in the narrative is pushing toward something far more honest.
I’m still reeling from just how patronizing and condescending the writing of Will’s storyline is in season 5, and those two adjectives need to be used more in reviews of that season. When you actually think about the finished storyline as its own thing, separate from outside theories or headcanons, it’s literally just Will “being put in his place” and “finally getting over his selfish perverted delusions.” That was the intention, that was the execution.
A tortured, isolated, mentally and physically violated gay boy - who sacrificed his own happiness for his best friend’s happiness and made said friend feel seen and loved for the first time in his life - finally “learns his lesson” and “stops preying on this innocent straight guy.” Robin is the heroic, wise, all-knowing mentor who only sees and speaks the objective truth about a guy she doesn’t even know, and guides Will to “snap out of it and stop believing his feelings are real.” Mike never learns the truth, but he doesn’t get a say in the matter because “he’s just Tammy.”
That is downright patronizing and condescending.
What is the purpose of the scene of Mike zoning out in the hospital???
It comes out of nowhere and makes no sense. Mike seems to not be distraught about his family in danger, people like to explain this by saying he's "emotionally constipated" and "repressing" his feelings but the show doesn't show us that and he NEVER ends up "releasing his feelings" or having an emotional scene about his feelings. The entire season he's just 😐😐😐😐. Why tf was he zoning out!!?!!??!!!? He seemed deep in thought about something but we never find out. It was so random.

Can we talk about how fucking stupid this scene is. Killing VECNA thinking about when the girl you knew for a week disappeared briefly and not when your best friend you met at 5 years old was kidnapped by VECNA. (Adding onto that being terrorized this whole season by him?)
That awkward moment when you have to turn your show into retcon galore just to make the het couple seem less like absolute fucking slop
Post season 4 Will getting possessed again but this time they're not able to save him because he doesn't believe Mike anymore about the swings experience being special after what he heard him say about his life starting the day he found El
anyway I'm still mad that him saying this was not addressed at all and telling a lie like that should have had consequences
stupid question but does anyone know any songs that sound similar to purple rain because it's such a good song but it being used for #that made it unlistenable LOL
I really wish we got to see another instance of Will breaking down/expressing his anger. He was allowed that one time in season 3 but then the writers just put a permanent lid on his angry emotions/muted him and his entire arc becomes purely internalized
All we do is observe Will's arc solely through watching Will. We barely have other characters interacting with his specific storyline or talking about him. It's so odd and despite his arc already being ruined with the direction they took it it's already more ruined by hiding half of it and never really bringing it to the forefront or having loud serious emotional scenes about it including other characters and how they interact with what he's going through. It drives me up the wall because he passively sorts himself out by self rejecting and making assumptions. He's never even allowed to vocalize his feelings?? If they went for a better storyline we could have maybe for once had behavior changes for him that affect other characters and put him on their radar so we could delve into what other characters think about him or just finally hear something about Will (that others observe or think/know) that DOESNT COME FROM WILL HIMSELF. Being forced into Will's pov in regards to him all the time becomes suffocating because it's like being forever trapped in the story of an unreliable narrator and having to take what he thinks of scenarios/others as fact without ever getting another perspective on it. (and this would be of benefit to HIM)
This scene pisses me off so much because what is Mike doing.
Will is stuck in a trance being tormented by Vecna and this useless idiot wasn't staying by his side (only his mother has the privilege of doing that past vol 1) and he was staying where the perfectly capable and okay El is for what? I don't understand why they had to erased Byler's bond so much. (Actually I think we all do, to prevent a certain outcome and gaslight the audience). Season 2 Mike would NEVER do this.
And then Will turns around after only getting a hug from Joyce (again why tf is she now just constantly glued to his side whereas Mike isn't allowed anywhere near him anymore) looking like THIS
Like ACTUAL death and Mike doesn't react or really care. In fact this is just completely brushed over and this traumatic experience is never explored. Earlier Mike "stayed" with Will at the radio station for seemingly no reason because he wasn't by his side (again only JOYCE) and only walked in to stare and say nothing. Why!!?!??. And then he leaves Will again and joins the others to go to the hospital for what reason!!?!???! He wasn't needed at the hospital!!!!!!
The writers keep trying to force Mikes wants and character around El when it just doesn't work. Mike wants to be needed and to be a protector and El DOESNT NEED THAT! This falls in line more with Will's character/needs/wants NOT El. El and Mike's characters clash and that is simply the truth. They do not work and trying to force Mike away from his compatible partner is of evident detriment to the narrative and his character.
This is also to the disadvantage of Joyce because they reduced her to practically Will's babysitter because they will not allow him to seek comfort in Mike anymore therefore not letting her have her own arc this season.

And what's with this creepy ass sweater
Mike saying he wanted to run away with El is the most OOC shit ever lmao
