there are so many people on here who are acting shocked and appalled by what is currently happening without having at least the self-respect to apologize for their part in bringing it about. you fucked up! this is your fault! sure isn't mine! but it's everyone's problem now! deal with that like an adult and don't do it again! your ego is not more important than the lives of the hundreds of thousands of children killed by the USAID cuts. go vote you fucking hobgoblins
You’re watching a YouTuber that discusses online radicalization, at some point they get radicalized in the opposite direction. You sigh and move on. You’re watching a YouTuber that discusses online radicalization. At some point they get radicalized in the opposite direction. They show no self awareness that this has happened. You move on. You’re watching a YouTuber that discusses online radicalization. They have excellent insight into how distrust and misinformation lead to conspiratorial thinking and how the internet as we know it today is designed to feed these impulses. At some point they get radicalized themselves. You’re watching a YouTuber.
Yes, I am talking about this subject once again, because it fucking matters:
It is April 2026. One of the nation's top doctors is openly saying the president is showing signs of dementia. Because the president is a Republican, the press continues to shrug and move on. Under two years ago, that same press got together to end Joe Biden's presidency because he had a stutter and a cold during a debate, despite the fact that 1) Biden's lifelong stutter is well-documented 2) he was able to perform several public events in the weeks after and was fine 3) he's still fine 2 years later and wouldn't be able to make speeches in 2026 if he had been dying of dementia in 2024.
The press never provided any proof of their accusations, and no, Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson's tell-all book didn't actually tell anything:
But it didn't matter that the book didn't provide any evidence that Biden had dementia, because the narrative had been set--actually all the way back during the 2020 campaign, first by Fox News, and like a lot of right-wing narratives, it gradually took hold and became the mainstream narrative. I said it before and I'm saying it again: if the media had actually been concerned about the president having dementia, instead of them knowing that they were full of shit and deliberately pushing Biden out of the White House to enable Trump, they would be having wall-to-wall, nonstop coverage about Trump's decline. They're not doing that because they like Trump and will never admit to what they did, in a similar way to how they've never owned up to the role they played in downplaying Trump in 2016 and focusing on "HeR EmAAAAAAiiiiiLLLLLsssss" instead.
People should care about the truth, and the fact that too many members of the press lined up to lie to the public and enable Trump's victory (again). I will never stop being angry about the entire second half of 2024, and I'm right about that!
It's been almost exactly 2 years since the same media killed Biden's presidency over the debate btw (the same debate where Trump babbled like a lunatic, but that's ok cuz he was sooo funneeeeee and not cringeeee like stutter icky old man :///)
I'm going to say something controversial yet brave but, the fact that so much of tumblr culture revolves around dunking on Cringe moments from like a solid 10-15 years ago, whether they came from individual bloggers or collective tumblr communities like fandoms or shippers within a fandom, is the tumblr version of having lolcows. Spending years dunking on people isn't normal, still mocking people and fan communities from the early 2010s in the mid-2020s isn’t normal, having a website culture revolve around years of telephone about users and laughing at previous harassment campaigns isn't normal, a site collectively driving a YA author away for years due to deranged harassment isn't normal, and treating this kind of harassment as an eternal funnee meme isn't normal. Tumblr engaging in this kind of 4chan/kiwifarms adjacent behavior really since its inception explains so much about why this site is genuinely awful, and this site will justify it like "well no this is different we HAD to bully those shippers off tumblr because they were being cringe!" As if this isn’t the classic troll mentality. The early days of tumblr also had hate fanwikis dedicated to some users on here, and again, this is very reminiscent of kiwifarms (which started out as a website to harass an infamous “lolcow”)
It’s also similar to kiwifarms in that those trolls are pathetic irl, because you have to be a pathetic person to sit around and essentially join a hate fandom for people. Well tumblr’s general user base is just that meme about the nerd in school finally getting to be the bully this time. Anti-fandom is so much more terminally online than fandom, but like the trolls mocking lolcows, tumblr bloggers think dunking on people empowers them and makes them cool. It’s all a way to gain social capital for very mean-spirited people who are trying to differentiate themselves from other, Cringe bloggers on this fringe, bizarre website lol
This is a strange nitpick because first of all, no most people do not join online hate fandoms for years against individuals or do things like obsessively mock fandoms from 15 years ago. The fact that it’s been normalized on fringe internet spaces doesn’t mean it’s common overall irl (whenever I tell people irl about tumblr, they’re like ??????? And your average irl mockery tends to look different from the dedicated online bullshit I’m talking about) but more importantly, I think it’s pretty clear by the context that this isn’t even the definition of “normal” I’m using. “Normal” isn’t only synonymous with “common”:
Harassing and mocking people for years is not mentally healthy. It is exhibiting defect, in character and healthy social behavior in this case. It is not behavior considered safe, healthy, or optimal. It is maladjusted. It is bizarre. It is suboptimal. It is dysfunctional. It is abnormal lol. I said what I meant and meant what I said. Words have many meanings.

Every fucking day, men log on and loudly say with their full chests that they support rapists and abusers for positions of power because they associate the Democratic Party with evil, cringe, nagging women who might hold them accountable (as creepy men are reported to HR), and yet all the pearl-clutching is reserved for women who are fed up and aren't niceys to men online. mhm. ok.
I think the short answer for why there were regretful Nader voters but not regretful '16 or '24 Stein voters or anti-voters is online radicalization tbh. Back in 2000, you didn't have the entire internet constantly blasting "Dems suck shit" in your face for years on end, or an online community of self-righteous assholes constantly reassuring you that your indefensible, immoral decision on Election Day was akshewally radically progressive praxis and that you're a poor little meow meow who couldn't ever do anything wrong. It's just a daily echo chamber where people can be insulated from the consequences of their bad choices to a certain extent and coddled that they were sooooo right and everyone else is just a filthy [insert leftist buzzwords here] for pointing to the blood on their hands. Relatedly, you could say Republicans sucked in 2000 without all the cool kids immediately feeling the need to reassure everyone they still thought Democrats were Cringe, too. The culture was just different back then, and current, modern internet culture dictates that Republicans aren’t great but they’re a force of nature who can’t really be held accountable, but Democrats are the ultimate force of Cringe and evil in the world who must be taken down at all costs and you’re the ultimate genocidal cringe lord if you voice any support for them in any way. I also think internet echo chambers encourage people to double down and never admit they were wrong across the political spectrum
I feel a bit impatient with the way leftists criticize USAID when you point out that defunding it will have and has already had devastating consequences. "Yes, literally millions of people have died, but have you considered that USAID also was the funding vehicle for stupid and ineffectual schemes to overthrow the Cuban government." Like okay. Which of these things do you think I'm sad about losing? It's just like this absurd tendency to pick at some "ummm actually" in the face of a humanitarian catastrophe.
#I read an article that wholeheartedly argued that USAID literacy programs for women in a highly patriarchal country was imperialist#because that country traditionally had a strong oral tradition of which women were the primary keepers.#And teaching them literacy led to the decline and erasure of that culture.#I shit you not I read this on JSTOR with mine own two eyeballs.#God forbid non-Western women.... read?? And work?? And escape patriarchal abuse??
#a lot of ppl think women’s rights is a western imperialist concept it’s crazy
the author’s barely disguised job they worked in their early 20s

Thinking about that time I posted a poll asking people if they thought it would be neat to witness something like a tornado/earthquake/etc. presuming it happened in a way that nobody got hurt and it produced minimal property damage, like hypothetically speaking, and my note were full of people telling me how actually tornadoes and earthquakes are bad and hurt people and cause significant property damage so how could i even say such a thing is neat??
and that just feels like an encapsulation of tumblr on a small scale
one of these people was from Brazil and was very upset that I could have posted this while terrible things were happening in Brazil, how could you say such a thing, Americans are SO fucking selfish
and went i went to her blog to block her because i don't have time for this, she was posting about spending thousands of dollars on plane tickets to go to multiple Taylor Swift concerts
and that also feels like an encapsulation of tumblr on a small scale

I've reached the point where cynicism is a major turn-off for me. You're not smarter than idealists, and you're not helping.
Funny that the stereotypical cynic is an idealist who aged out of it. In my experience, the reverse is true. I was an extreme cynic as a teenager and then I noticed how profoundly limiting it was, and also that "cynics are cool and smart" was a message that was being constantly reinforced by corporate media for some reason.
#yes! cynicism reads as very juvenile to me#and yes prev often stemming from teen pain
Yeah, like I see black-pilled people on here and my default reaction isn't "oh, these must be world-weary old warriors who've lost their faith in humanity", it's "these people are in their 20s and need a hobby"
I also think that the present era has proven that authoritarian leaders don't actually want a population of wide-eyed idealists, they want a population of jaded assholes who are convinced that everyone is lying, any resistance is either a scam or doomed to failure, and nothing can ever get better.
bro im not driving pass me the victor hugo there are men who seemingly are born to be the verso quote
