I wonder if there just wasn't enough interest in the coming-of-age story Earthspark was trying to tell. Plus, most tf fans you come across online will talk about how much they dislike humans being in the stories. So, for the plot to revolve around the Malto family with 7 kids and for both villains of season 1 to be humans, I think it lost the attention of a number of people.

This may not be THE reason it's getting cancelled, but I think it's something to consider at least.
