I've known that BancalaWalker and HaikaraWalker are parodies of the real-life "Walker" travel magazines in japan (like TokyoWalker, KansaiWalker, etc) but I didn't make the connection until now that both the splat artbooks and the irl mags are from the same publisher, so that's how they can parody it so closely…

(thought I'd share this because I assume there are people that don't know that these splatoon artbooks are parodying a real life thing!)

since their skin is very thin to absorb ink quickly, something like being suddenly submerged in water over-saturates their bodies with it, resulting in a splat

if an inkfish were to take about 10-20 minutes (depending on their age and general health) to slowly introduce themselves to water (this would be like. just sticking their feet in the water for a while. or maybe taking a shower) their body would be used to it enough to let them swim normalstyle without concequence (but its not like. a one-time thing. you'd have to do this every time you wanted to go swimming)

this is also why showers and rain are fine to them. not enough water & delivered at a slow enough rate 👍
