When I was about 7 years old, the movie Frozen came out and it became pretty well known and famous with a big fandom, and little me was SO into the movie that every school supply i ever bought was Frozen themed.
And then i discovered the "Let it go" song multi language videos on YouTube....
And long story short I learned how to sing Let it go in English, Russian, Polish, Norwegian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Arabic, and Slovakian, by heart despite
1. Not knowing how to sing
2. Not knowing how to speak any of those languages.
a positive ask: i love that a lot of slavs celebrate vΓ‘noce (for me hehe)/christmas on the night of the 24th instead of the morning of the 25th. i have amazing memories of our christmas carp and late night lights and my dadβs tricks to make it seem like jeΕΎΓΕ‘ek brought our gifts. i have zero nostalgia for american christmas i love our late night christmas :-)
Omg that's so interesting anon! Coming from a slav whose culture celebrates on 7th of January yayaya
my dad is czech and my mom is american. she fought hard to americanize my name (failed) and convinced my dad to drop the -islav of his name to sound more american. its seen as annoying when i want people to pronounce my name correctlyβ i should just accept all of the wrong american names people assign me. a lot of people have told me iβm βexoticβ for being slavic. my dad worked in construction for rich people who assumed he was russian, and one employer quite literally fired my dad after meeting my mom and realizing she wasnβt βalso a russianβ.. people at my college (usa) have jokingly called me soviet, comrade, asked if my family are alcoholics etc just bizarre statements just because my name is very obviously slavic. no idea of the history of czechia and the ussr at all. i am tired of either being made into an american or a russian when i am neither of those.
Hi sorry for posting this so late anon! π₯Ήπ₯Ήπ₯Ή
"why do we need human translators when we have AI"
I was asking a translate app that i only later realized uses AI tools for some app options, and i tried to translate a very colloquial phrase used in Serbian into Russian, as i wanted to joke with my friends who study it too.
I translated the sentence that goes somewhat like: That doesn't matter, are you fuckin' somethin'?
And no matter how i typed the sentence, in many different variations, the app translated my sentence as "Leave the situation, have you lost your mind?"
Maybe it's something i am not aware of but idk, sounds very inaccurate.

do you have any good resources on slavic paganism?
You can find some of the resources i have on my account @temple-of-perunika , and scattered around my main blog @jezzzebel , you can search #slavic paganism on there and you will find my older posts on it!! Some are random stuff regarding slavic paganism, but a lot are resources, discussions, prayers, and texts!!
It's mildly annoying when people say "pierogis" π. Pierogi is already plural, pierΓ³g is singular. I understand that not everyone is aware of that, but it is still annoying.

Omg literally!!
If people who love to eat cultureal food can learn how to pronounce a name of food in very hard languages for english native speakers which have a lot of tones, grammatical cases, and different writing systems... They can learn a simple word like that. Especially if that's someone on the internet who makes content. It seems lazy and not genuine content that way. If you don't know how to say a name of a food you make, how can i tell that you are making the food authentic at all???
I'm Polish, who's learning Russian, and once when I said something about learning Russian in The Lion King server, an owner (he's also Polish) started shitting on Russian language, Russia and Russian people and that Russia and people there should stop exist.
what the fuck??
Russia's government is terrible but it's not a reason to shit on people living there and shitting on their language.
Hi there! Sorry for answering this so late!!
That's so shitty of them. Learning a language doesn't equal supporting something. Plus a lot of people in Russia support Ukraine. But censorship and propaganda does it's way to make us not think that. People on here , on Tumblr should know that the best.
Russian government is indeed terrible, and i am sure we all can admit it. The attack on Ukraine is horrifying, and i hope our fellow Ukrainians heal from it , thrive as people and as a country as soon as possible.
Learning a language is a skill that should be admired and encouraged.
"Hey so my country under Turkey's rule was a really horrible period of time... We were enslaved, killed, and forcibly converted to another religion. Maybe don't tell us that we have Turkish genes, it's really weird. People in the west deem it disrespectful to rub it in someone's face that they may be whitewashed. Why would you do this to us?"
"Erm it's not Turkey, it's Turkiyeughlieghvoulezvous, also it was not us, it was Ottomans, we are different, also you deserved it, also you do have turkish genes, also fuck you and your mom"

As much as i tried to boycott eurovision this year, the tiktok algorithm is making it so hard ugh but, i am very negatively surprised by one specific thing.
There is a trend going around tiktok that has captions like
"Eurovision in Bulgaria 2027 because Bulgaria will have a budget of 10β¬ π€£"
Because yeah poverty and poorness is funny when it's east europeans. Yeah i am tooootally overreacting. Totally. /sarcasm
I beg people to be normal about the economic situations of Slavic countries π
1. people making fun of the concept (βbros eating ingredientsβ and calling us cavemen)
2. people then trying it and the contents making no sense (whole carrots + cheddar cheese???)
3. turning into weird fetish content (ranch in peppers dripping on peopleβs faces???)
honestly the whole thing gave me such an ick
Sorry for getting to this so late anon!!
Yeah that is genuinely so weird of people for real π₯Ήπ I don't get how people feel the need to participate in such "trends" π when they KNOWW that something about them is culturally insensitive, even if they don't know what.
I hate that I have to spend ages trying to find an "aesthetic" photo of our traditional dishes because I'm so scared of people saying/thinking it's "gross" or "bland" or something. it seems like unless it's aesthetically pleasing or well known, people don't mind making fun of it. especially since apparently "(all) white people have no culture" <- hurts to say ngl
People make no effort to pronounce my nams right. At all. "Its easier to say this way." "This is the american / english pronunciation." But if I say your name wrong, we have a whole fit. Its annoying.
Literally! The unnecessary mispronunciation of the letter J in slavic names tooo...

I've been told that i am ,,,probably closed minded and homophobic" because i am Belarusian πΏ
As if I have not told in front of this person that i am a non-binary lesbian, and they met my partner πΏπΏπΏ liek whata is the correlation?
That's such a weird stereotype... Slavic people do not appreciate it when y'all tell them they are closed-minded yall. There is a lot of us who are very liberal and accepting.. β€οΈ
