Otto joined the musical melodie show from the smiles company in 1929 , this show had a lot of music and funny jokes in it and Otto would serve that show for a very very long time from 1929 to 1964 This is the only surviving film part which is the intro of the short ( heavenly mule ) made in 1931 which is the oldest surviving film of the musical melodie show. This also shows that most of films otto was in are lost or in bad shape due to their age.

Otto was very happy in the 1920s to the 1930s as it was his golden years and he would make so much music recordings that the smiles company's archives did not have any space felt . he loved his music! picture of the first recording Otto made restored by R3: studios

in 1919 otto was created to advertise the smiles railway and shipping lines but after in the 1920s he was in newspaper comics and joke ads.

then the owner of the smiles company decided that otto is going to be a star in the new things called films.

so In 1925/1/4 otto smiles was created by the smiles company picture production to be a orchestra leader and formed his own orchestra 3 days after he was made and called it otto's orchestra and friends , his first performance was the song "Charleston" in the smiles co orchestra house in new York about 1500 people showed up to see him perform , when he was performing he did not speak just made noises as he could not talk as the smiles company were still experimenting on their first toon which was him. his voice actor son of the smiles company's owner died just 2 weeks after otto was made.
