How he has to go on a journey all over hyrule again, all to fight an evil that rocked his s*** last time, EVEN WITH the Master Sword.

Link fights monsters, goes through shrines, exploring the skies and depths all to prepare for another fight with Evil, all for Zelda's sake.

You cant tell me Link doesnt think he's a failure. And of course he was probably devastated finding out what Zelda had to do. She once again saved him, laid the ground work for him, sacrificed EVERYTHING because she believed he could stop the evil if given the chance.

like yes, it is sweet that he threw himself in front of the yiga clan with no thought to his own safety. and yes, that is his job. but it’s MORE than that imo. it is, again, that it is talked about in text that link would’ve lived at the castle training to be a knight with his father before he pulls the master sword. i think link knew the princess was beautiful and had a minor crush - the kind you’d get on a pop star. it’s something he can dismiss out of hand.

but then he pulls the master sword. and the prophecy is revealed. and suddenly there’s a burden on his shoulder that he finds it difficult to speak. he has all these duties he didn’t ask for and the only person in the world he can relate to is the princess who hates his guts. they share a burden, and she refused to even look his way. and yet king rhoam orders them to spend time together, assigns him to be her knight. and he knows she despises him, but he follows her anyway. and he gets to see her. he sees her attempts to awaken her sealing power, he sees her studying the ancient tech, and he sees her friendship with impa & purah. he sees how she is so strong regarding her mother’s death.

again, he can’t help but remember that superficial crush - the kind that one might have on an actress - and it grows. it festers, taking root like a plant in his heart and growing out of control. he doesn’t want to control it. but he keeps it firm in there, because his duty is to his country, his duty is to protect. it isn’t his duty to fall in love.
