Raphael x Evelyn oc
-------------------------------------------------------
By the third day, he argued less.
Not because he agreed.
Just because it worked.
She spent more time with the laptop than anything else, the device becoming a fixed point in everything they did, something she refused to give up on even when the results were consistently disappointing. She repaired it as far as she could, restored enough function that it responded, that it held data, that it tried to connectβ
But there was nothing.
No signal.
No trace of one.
βWhich means we are deeper than expected,β she said at one point, more to herself than to him, her eyes fixed on the screen as she cross-referenced what little data she could still access.
ββ¦that bad?β he asked, watching her from where he sat nearby.
βIt complicates navigation,β she replied, which for her meant more than she said outright.
She worked through it anyway, pulling up maps, comparing terrain markers, referencing her notes on the artifact, on the myth she had mentioned before, looking for anything that could anchor them to something real instead of just endless green.
Raph watched her for a while, the steady focus, the way she didnβt stop even when it wasnβt working, and after a bit something else surfaced, something more practical, more immediate.
ββ¦can I hunt or somethinβ ?β he asked.
She looked up at him then, properly this time, her expression shifting just slightly as she processed the question.
βYou want to hunt,β she repeated.
He shrugged, though there was a faint edge under it. βI eat more than you. This ainβt enough.β
She considered that, actually considered it, her gaze narrowing slightly as she thought it through.
βThere are small wild pigs in this region, I think,β she said slowly. βBut they are difficult to track. You would need to move quietly, follow their patterns, understandββ
He was already standing.
βGreat,β he said, cutting in, decision made before she could finish. βIβll go try that.β
She blinked once, then leaned back slightly, something like amusement flickering across her face.
βOf course you will,β she said, her voice dry again. βGo ahead. Let yourβ¦ what is the phraseββ she paused, just slightly, ββtoxic masculinity guide you.β
Raph shot her a look over his shoulder, already moving toward the edge of their clearing.
βYeah, keep talkinβ,β he muttered.
She didnβt stop him.
Didnβt try to.
Just watched him go, that faint, knowing look still there, like she already knew exactly how it was going to play out.
And he hated that she probably did.
It took him closer to two hours than he would ever admit out loud, and by the time Raphael pushed back through the undergrowth into their small clearing, there were scratches along his arms, dried mud up his legs, and a tension still coiled in his shoulders that hadnβt fully settled yet, but he was grinning anyway, sharp and unapologetic, the kind of grin that came from something hard won rather than easily taken. The animal hung from his grip with visible effort, a small wild pig just as she had described, not large but dense, solid, and very much real in a way that made the entire attempt worth it.
He didnβt say anything at first.
Just stepped into the firelight and held it up slightly, like the proof spoke for itself.
Evelyn looked up from where she had been crouched near the fire, something already simmering low over the coals, her gaze flicking from the animal to him and then back again, and there was a pause there, just long enough to register the effort it must have taken, just long enough that he almost expected somethingβsurprise, maybe, or acknowledgment that wasnβt wrapped in sarcasm.
Instead, one corner of her mouth lifted, faint and entirely too controlled.
ββ¦do you want praise?β she asked, her tone dry enough to take the edge off anything that might have been sincere.
Raphβs grin faltered into a scowl almost immediately. βDonβt start,β he muttered, lowering the pig with a bit more force than necessary, though he didnβt drop it entirely, not careless enough to undo what heβd just managed.
She didnβt let it go.
βOh, no, you absolutely do,β she continued, tilting her head slightly as she looked at him, that quiet amusement settling into her expression in a way that made it worse. βSuch a good job. Truly impressive. You went into the jungle and came back with something larger than a fish.β
βYeah, alright,β he cut in, irritation flaring just enough to cover the flicker of satisfaction that still sat underneath it. βYou done?!.β
βSuch a good boy,β she purred lightly, and that was what did it.
βYeah, you can fuck right off with that,β he shot back, dropping the pig fully now and stepping back a fraction, his hands coming up briefly like he didnβt know what to do with them before settling on his hips instead.
She huffed something that might have been a suppressed laugh, shaking her head slightly as she shifted her attention back to the task at hand.
Raph glanced down at the animal, then back at her, then back again, the earlier confidence stalling out just enough for reality to catch up with it.

my toxic writing trait is imagining the scene in my head in long, full cinematic detail and then writing: βthey fought. it was intense.β
Hiii! Iβm trying to write a Marauders-era Snape fanfiction alongside my tmnt one.
Iβve honestly been pretty disappointed by most of the Snape fics Iβve read, so I got frustrated enough to start writing my own. I donβt mean that as an insult to any of the writers, they are doing amazing work [their stories are just usually not my cup of tea]
Sooo, let me know whether you think I should post it! Iβm trying to finish plotting the whole story before I start uploading any chapters, but for now, hereβs a little sketch.

Me with the Harry Potter puppets video lol
I dunno if anyone ever noticed this or commented on it but
The way Optimus' eyes are rendered and textured in TFP, always reminded me of tear tracks? The etchings underneath.
Like this gentle man, who so badly wanted peace above all else, had cried so many tears till he had none, that they were now marked forever on his face.
Edit: Megatron also has these tears too
nobody gets hellboy. a true hellboy movie has yet to be made. everybody wants him to be a brooding pop cultural antihero soooo bad but hes NOT. he is a brooding 50 year old dad who gets pissed and has to decompress by drinking a six pack in the shed with his "projects". we're talking about a guy who quotes herman melville from memory, unprompted. he's literally a classic lit nerd. there is more of roman military history fan about him than of epic punisher comic book man. grandpas love him. hes not a badass. he is someone who does badass things but hes also a total fucking dork. he may have a "yeah yeah just point me at the thing i need to beat up" attitude in the field but he 100% does all his research ahead of time. hes literally an expert. and he carries a ton of different little charms and things around with him to be prepared for any occasion. he is a NERD. a GEEK. but he got drawn with a gun a couple times so hes epic mckillman now
"What makes a man a man?" a friend of mine once wondered. Is it his origins? The way he comes to life? I don't think so. It's the choices he makes. Not how he starts things, but how he decides to end them.

Itβs just a prank
I wanted to try to emulate a linocut style, I really like it, I wonβt do it all the time, but this is something I had a lot of fun with and will probably do again
