I just tagged a friend who I know owns and loves snails so they could see a funny post. Wtf is your problem? Do you not know how and why people tag friends on posts?? Are you new to tumblr or something??

Idk @gem-femme maybe you’re new to tumblr and don’t get that comments work differently here to other social media platforms ^__^. Every time you add a comment to a post you attach that comment to a new thread of the post - this is different to other social media sites where there is one copy of a post and a comment section.

There are several ways to share a post with a friend without needlessly attaching a comment to a post that literally no one else cares about including:

Sending the post to them as a message. This will share the post as a nice message and still allow your friend to reblog and enjoy the post. Tumblr actually has support for sending posts in app! See this wonderful post explaining this more if you’re confused: x

Tagging them in the replies. This will still show up in the notes of the OP which can get annoying on big posts but at least you haven’t added a useless comment to a thread that shows up on other people’s dashes who don’t know either you or your friend.

Ever since post editing was removed, it has become a bit more difficult to remove comments which just tag people and aren’t relevant to the post. So if we could all do our part and share posts with friends in other ways that would be great!

1. Tumblr isn’t like other social media so I don’t have to follow the rules of other social media when using it. I don’t even understand why you’d expect people to act like tumblr is something other than what it is. I don’t use other social media sites (I literally only have tumblr) because I hate the culture of them so I’m definitely not going to try to force the culture other sites have onto this one. I’ve been on this site for 10 years and this is what people have always done ever since we were given the ability to tag other people.

2. I can do whatever the fuck I want on tumblr as long as it’s within community guidelines.

3. If you hate others tagging friends, then just fucking block people doing it and then the tag disappears instead of looking to have issues with other people for no fucking reason.

4. Lighten the fuck up. Just accept that no one has to give a fuck about how you want them to use tumblr. You’re not the owner of this site. You don’t have authority over other users. Control your own tumblr experiences by using the block button liberally instead of being a dick to people who dare share a post with a friend in a way you don’t like. I really do not give a fuck what you want me to do, especially when you come at me like that completely out of nowhere over something that doesn’t even matter, and I will keep tagging my friends in posts like this just to spite you lmao. So fucking block me and move on.
