Going grocery shopping was new to her. Well, going grocery shopping without worrying about the cost or how many packages of food she could fit under her shirt. Having enough money and being treated like a civilian was new. It was a new she wouldnโt mind getting used to eventually. For now, she just enjoyed not being followed around the store or being given dirty looks by the employees.ย
Coming across the cold section in the back with her cart, she stops to pick up milk. Why was there so many different kinds of nut milk? She couldnโt remember. Soy and 2% fat seemed okay for now. Backing up, she catches sight of someone in front of the egg display. Their cart was full of eggs. Why so many? A potluck? Breakfast for dinner for hundreds of people? A giant omlette? His answer is far more simple.
โGood for you?โ She gestures to his cart. โDo you really need so many, though? It seems like they might go bad before you get to eat them all.โ Unless he was planning to hardboil and save them all. Actually, that was a pretty good plan, if you didnโt mind cold eggs. She abandons her own cart for a moment to pick up a carton and open it, checking for cracks. โI wonder why theyโre all so fresh though. Too many in stock?โ
Inaho ponders a little bit before giving her a straight answer. He fiddles with the egg in his hand, carefully rolling it around his palm.ย โNot likely. Fresh eggs are hardy, and they can last about 6 months refrigerated.โ He returns the egg to its rightful carton, and returns the carton to his cart.ย โEggs are usually already 3 months old by the time they reach stores. Therefore they donโt last too long when bought at a typical store. These eggs seem like theyโre fresh off the farm.โ
There was a lot of things you can do with eggs. You can fry them sunny-side up, serve them scrambled, roll them up into an omelette, directly boil them for hardboiled, poach them, maybe even eat them raw... The possibilities were endless. Eggs were truly the wonder protein, and Inaho is no stranger to its exceptional capabilities. If one were to stock up for the winter or in state of famine, only a fool would forget to buy eggs.
โ15 cartons of a dozen eggs total up to 180. 6 months is exactly one egg a day to finish them all.โ He turns to the woman with glistening hope in his eyes.ย โI suggest you get them, too. Youโll thank me later.โ He really wants her to get these eggs.
