I remember when I was younger, anytime I watched a movie where the characters have to kill a scary monster/alien, I always thought the act of killing it was intended to be part of the horror. Like there’s this amazing creature that we’ve never seen before, and maybe under different circumstances we could’ve coexisted with it, but it’s trying to attack you and you have to defend yourself, but by destroying it you also destroy the ability to ever understand it and that’s sad and is supposed to make you feel conflicted.
It was not until well into my adulthood that I realized most people do not have complicated feelings about movies where people have to kill a scary alien monster, nor is that necessarily meant to be part of the narrative (unless it very obviously is). They just want the scary thing to die because it’s scary. I don’t have a real conclusion to this I just started thinking about it for some reason.
I always felt I couldn't possibly be upset about dying to an alien monster because proof of otherwordly life is exactly what it'd take for me to die happy
I loved playing Tomb Raider, but it always bothered me that the game-desired, and often game-required, response to encountering any number of lovely big cats, mythical creatures, and fucking surviving dinosaurs was to kill them.

Slightly underrated aspect of the past few chapters is how Angel kept getting jumpscared with “worst case scenario Alastor” followed by seeing realizing that he is not, in fact, that bad. It’s reminiscent of the eggbois saga where Alastor acts like he’s sooo thrilled to murder them when Vaggie tells him to dispose of them and then the second he’s out of sight of the hotel he’s just like, bringing them around town like daycare kids on a leash, keeping them from agitating dangerous Overlords, and becoming inexplicably fond by the end of the day. Local man needs you to believe he is a dangerous maniac, is in fact a safe bet for a reliable emergency contact.
Running through this a little — Angel storms the hotel afraid that Alastor is going to have gone violently ballistic on Husk. Finds that what actually happened is they hurt each other’s feelings plus mutual property damage. Angel sees that Alastor has gotten Vox on a leash and somehow convinced him it’s a good thing. Finds out that the leash is literally just a temporary kink thing and Vox isn’t being master-manipulated, he just knows he’s actually safe. And all of this escalates and culminates into Angel blinking and starting to see Alastor as an actual human person—coincidentally, right after he’s seen through a bunch of the other fronts Alastor has put on as a maniacal monster.
I legitimately think the first video game to ever say the word "bisexual" out loud was Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. There is a nonzero chance it was actually the first video game to print "bisexual" in a text format.
It is very possible that the first video game character to ever say the word "Bisexual" out loud was Solid Snake.
Based on what I found, the first ever bisexual character in a video game was Curtis Craig from Phantasmagoria 2 (1996) but I have yet to find out if he says the word "bisexual" in the scene where this is revealed
He does not. He says he's attracted to his male best friend but he never says the word "bisexual."
The first ever character to ever correctly and overtly identify a person as bisexual was Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001)
