A story I spontaneously came up with and wrote down at 2 AM because I couldnāt sleep
About a TADC oc of mine also being unable to sleep
For context: this story is from the POV of a character Iāve been working on, Skye. Sheās made of clay. She is capable of shapeshifting, but she either doesnāt know about it or isnāt comfortable with it yet in the story, which has her as relatively new to the circus. Her ādefaultā form is somewhere between the height of Zooble and Kinger, and looks vaguely dragon-like due to her head and long thick tail. Sketch at the bottom to show her ādefaultā shape.
I showed this to a couple people and they said they liked it, which surprised me, as Iām not a writer and it was 2 AM.
Hereās the story:
She idly glanced at her phone to check the time, only to find OH MY GOD SHE MISSED THE LINEAR ALGEBRA EXAM
She snapped awake and quickly fumbled out of bed, stepping on her tail in the process.
Wait.
Her tail.
Her weird squishy tail. Which was now stuck to her weird squishy foot.
She was never going to see another linear algebra exam.. or her friends.. or familyā¦ she was still stuck in this weird.. circus.
It had its perks, she supposed.. sheāll never have to worry about getting a job, and it doesnāt matter if she forgets to eat again. But still.. change is scary.
She tried to go back to bed, but just couldnāt seem to get comfortable again.
She gave up eventually, put on her favorite cloak (and only article of clothing she now owned), grabbed a blanket and a pillow, and walked out to the common area.
Maybe sheāll have more luck sleeping on a couch? Her bed was kind of odd anyway.. maybe this would feel more ānormalā.
But the space also felt so large.. and would it be weird for the others to catch her sleeping out here?
A pillow fort caught her eye. Oh yeah, she wouldnāt be the only one.
Actually.. a pillow fort sounded kind of cozyā¦ would he mind..?
She hadnāt known Kinger for very long yet.. but we were all stuck here in this circus anyway, and she was used to living with someone else in her college dorm, and really she just didnāt want to be alone right now.. left with the thoughts of the people and places she once knew and would never see againā¦
She softly knocked on the ground outside of the fort, her clay hands making less of a knock sound and more of a quiet thump against the tile floor. Loud enough that Kinger could hopefully hear, but quiet enough that it shouldnāt wake him if he were asleep, which she assumed would be the case.
āGAAAH!ā
Ohā¦
She couldnāt tell if that meant he had been asleep.. maybe this was a bad idea..
A large eye peeked out from between the cushions
āYou startled me. Is everything alright?ā
āSorryyyā¦ā her tail coiled nervously. ā..I couldnāt sleep and was feeling a little lonelyā¦ itās too quiet..ā
