She knew she shouldn’t have gone back. Gods she knew she shouldn’t. But now here she was, knees crouched upon the rubble of a dead city, gently cradling the lifeless body of a glaive. She held him, holding him close until his ear was pressed against her chest as if he could hear the melody her heart was singing to him. Closing her eyes, a single tear traced the skin upon her cheek. However not a single weep sounded past her lips. Instead she whispered—soft like a prayer. And with her palm, caressed it over his heavy lids.
