Hey, I'm currently in year 11 and picking my AS options... I want to do French, History, Philosophy and either Art or English (I haven't decided). But recently someone told me art would be the better choice because otherwise I'll have too many essay writing subjects and it'll be much harder. I was wondering if you'd agree with them seen as you take these subjects? Thanks anyhow and good luck with your exams!

Hey I realise this is about 5 years too late but I haven’t been online and I just want to reassure you that I have loved these subjects the whole way through! Personally I’ve found that doing a lot of essay subjects means a lot of work throughout the year but then having less pressure throughout the revision period. I was worried about the same thing at the beginning but in some ways doing those subjects helped me, especially in the History/English coursework. Maybe your sixth form/college will be different but at mine towards the end of the year a lot of the essays became optional so you could choose how many you wanted to do. If you have any other questions just let me know, sorry again that it’s been so long but I plan to be more active from now on! Good luck with your exams if you have any left :)

10 minutes a day can make a major difference with a language and watching Youtube videos is an easy way of getting in that extra time (with content that is actually interesting to you). These are just a few of the most popular so if you haven’t already, you should definitely check some out.

Also known as the ‘I have no extra time but I want to up my marks in French’ hack. You can just put some music on in the background while you’re doing your History homework (added bonus - you won’t get distracted by the lyrics as much).

None of these work if you use them once for four hours and never again. It’s about building up your ability over a period of time. Ten minutes every day will save you a lot of stress during exam time.

I love finding books full of the previous owners' notes. It's amazing how every person has seen something different. It makes me wonder who they were and whether they liked the book and who their favourite character was.
