Every time I go to a bar, concert, work (currently on a post-Weinstein project) and of course watching a movie (etc.), I see several scenes that represent the deeply social sexual harassment that has more than simply a surface on top of a ânarrative.â In reality and fiction, this occurs for the vast majority of females in general life experience. Many people claim that everything Von Trier makes is an attempt towards chauvinsadist porn âentertainment,â but at the same time that common existence, its social consciousness, is the âsubjectâ and not the âvalueâ of this filmmaking.
I donât know the guy, maybe he is a douchebag (probably), and is (sub)consciously mirroring his own personal consciousness fucking sociality, creating his characters as critique of his own existence (similar to the recent narcissistic film Mother!, David Bowieâs fascist Thin White Duke, and/or Felliniâs much sexier âGuidoâ in 8 ½), resulting in pure self-hatred of the existence beyond its own control.
In any case, harassment today continues the massive direction towards assault, and exists on a massive degree depending on the experience and conversion of reality into a narrative. Bjork, who I love as a musician and a stunning actress in this particular project, re-battles with the awareness of Von Trierâs own drug use and potential suicidal psychology. He could have been âactingâ or behaving a certain way to âcreateâ the project he âdesired,â representing his own destruction. His films are particularly the main subject of the biblical/historical invention of gender, taking control of modern consciousness and pushing the opposition both deeper and further away simultaneously depending on the character watching the screen itself. So the filmâs mirror his existence and created the struggle of personal hatred due to cliche sexuality, but at the same time critiques itself, and, ideally, kills itself.
