Happy anniversary “Atlantis: The Lost Empire”! Thank you Milo Thatch for showing me that it’s okay to be different and to never give up on my dreams. Thank you for showing adult me (now the same age) that I’m not too old to have an adventure. Kida, thank you for showing me how important it is to be kind to people and that princesses can kick butt too. Thank you to the crew of the Ulysses for showing me that real friends will stick with you when it counts. Especially Dr.Sweet for giving Milo (and me) hope when it was needed the most. Helga thank you for showing me to stick to my guns, dress how I want and to take no shit! Rourke thank you for showing me not to take a character at face value and that there is usually more to a character if you dig deeper.

Mostly, thank you to the creators and team behind atlantis. Thank you guys for showing little six year old me that she wasn’t alone.

June 15th marks the 25th anniversary of the general theatrical release of Atlantis: The Lost Empire, one that I recall watching multiple times as a kid. This film was among multiple films that strayed away from Disney’s typical formula of an animated musical in the early 2000s, bringing a more intensive tone and sci-fi type genera to their roster. Although it is one of their less successful films, it still remains today as a treasured cult classic. I looking forward to the comic book, The Curse Of Kurok, that is to be released later this year.
