Only Bleach

Well… Okay, anon, honestly?  Because I’m of a certain age and have beenconsuming narratives in various forms since I was little.  

No, really, that’s it.

The thing is that certain clichés instorytelling become clichés for a reason: they work.  Over-saturating a fictional piece with them isdetrimental to its overall quality, but careful and deft usage makes for astory that resonates with readers.  I’dhighly recommend Joseph Campbell’s works, especially “The Hero with aThousand Faces” if that sort of thing interests you.

But what does this have to do with that sceneyou mentioned, you might ask?  The answeris that just like a bildungsroman has its own particular set of tropes (thementor, the hero who only reluctantly embarks on the quest at first etc), so doromances.  On top of all this, certaintropes become so ingrained in their respective genre, that their usage thenbecomes a storytelling device which allows the author to get the point acrosswith a single scene instead of dragging things out.  

And every single time I’ve seen characters onTV step out of a room dressed in robes, it’s basically a shorthand for: FYI,THESE TWO WERE TOTALLY JUST SCREWING IN THERE, IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING.

Genre: Fluff. Nothing but tooth rotting, diabetes inducing fluff.

Summary: “Thank you for making my board look super pretty, Ishida-kun! Wait, I told you that you’d get a sticker for your hard work.” She scrounges in her activity folder before Ishida can even formulate a protest. She sticks a gold star right over his left breast pocket. “Ta-da! A gold star for all your hard work.”

He sounds touched when he answers, in a breath, “Thank you, Inoue-sensei.”

Notes: Clocking it at a whopping near 6k is my first fic for Bleach–which surprisingly isn’t ichiruki! But I fell head over heels in love with this fic idea so I ended up writing it in like… two days… l-lol… even though it’s my first stab at Bleach longfic AND ishihime I had a lot of fun and I hope you all enjoy it :’)
