I headcanon that Doflamingo set his eyes on Crocodile even before the Roger’s execution, and when he saw him there, he wanted to grab his attention ASAP. I feel like Doffy would spill the beans on his origin rather fast, but instead of being impressed, Crocodile would see him for the spoiled brat he is and refuse any alliance with him and his family.
