Tumblr wtf this blog has exactly zero adult content.
For some time, Betuur had been mulling over the idea of leaving the Anchorites. It was true that he wanted to continue his work, but, he reasoned, by leaving, he would have far greater freedom to do as he pleased. No more having to put up the kind, gentle Priest act around those who were a threat to the marginalized and less fortunate.
Eventually, he came to the decision at least to talk it over with Ikeilos. The morning he planned to do so, however, a letter was hand delivered to him by a courier. He hadn’t received any letters for a while; the handwriting on the envelope was unfamiliar and sloppy, and the return address was to a place he’d never heard of called “Sun’s Peak” in the Eastern Plaguelands.
After tipping the courier, he headed inside and sat down at the table where he’d prepared his morning tea. The Anchorite flipped the letter open and was surprised to see a rather ornate wax seal - dark violet with gold trim, imprinted with the image of a rising sun. “Odd… I don’t recall seeing this emblem,” he mumbled to himself as he opened it, being careful not to break the seal.
The letter was barely-legible chicken scratch. It was almost entirely written in Draenic, save for a few words written out in Orcish, scratched out, then rewritten in either Draenic or (very poorly) in the common language of Azeroth. “Did a child write this?” he mused, slowly parsing the letter. In spite of the errors though, it was clear that the writer had a good grasp on the Draenic language but probably just wasn’t very used to writing it. ((OOC note: words in the letter that were written in Common are not italicized.))
Anchorite Betuur -
I’m reaching out to you for re'ka assistance with some feelings I’ve had gul'nath great difficulty working through since the death of my osh'kazil chasbaand mate. I heard of your work through some others on Draenor and was told you moguna actually reside here on Azeroth. If you are not currently taking new kleiants patients appointments, I understand, but it would mean a great deal if you would be willing to meet with me.
Aka'Magosh Regards, Saranklei
P.S. Sorry for the spelling errors, I haven’t written in Draenic in a long time.
It took a while to read due to the poor handwriting. Betuur pursed his lips when he finished and set the letter down, eyes immediately darting to all the crossed-out words. Why would someone who knew even a lick of Orcish want his help? Well, this Saranklei clearly knew Draenic as well - and that was an awfully Draenic-sounding name. Maybe there was something very wrong with him. Maybe he’d be an easy target.
A little smirk played at the Anchorite’s lips at the thought. If nothing else, he could learn more about this Sun’s Peak and the people there - perhaps they could all be swayed as well. “Well… perhaps I won’t leave the Anchorites,” he thought aloud. “It would certainly help to have a sponsored trip all the way to the Eastern Kingdoms…”
@dream-treader
“We’re going where?” Ikeilos set down the book he’d been reading, looking up at Betuur from his chair with an expression of polite confusion. “I’ve never heard of a ‘Sun’s Peak’ before.”
There wasn’t much of an explanation to be had, but it didn’t really matter. The young artificer would go anywhere his dear mentor required - and it had nothing to do with his supposed need for constant supervision lest he fall to the Shadow. There was one being in this world that Ikeilos ever truly loved with an open heart… “Of course, my darling. I’ll start packing at once. Do you mind if I bring my prototype for that harness to help keep your tail off the floor?”
"I only just learned of the place myself," Betuur chuckled, showing Ikeilos the seal on the envelope. "They're apparently big enough to have their own emblem."
He tapped his chin, leaning back in his seat as he pondered their next steps, and gave a slow nod to his lover's question. "That would be appreciated. I don't know what sort of state their little... area is in, but I do not think it would be prudent to drag my tail around in a place called 'Plaguelands.'"
His first step would be talking to his own mentor about making the trip, but it would be easy enough to persuade Krysion to let them go. After all, it was for a good cause, and being on a totally different continent in an area where few Anchorites treaded meant more freedom to do as he and Ikeilos desired. "If nothing else, it'll be nice to be able to get the hell away from Krysion for a while longer," he remarked.

The Birth of Deimos
Waking Dreamscape, five months ago [An excerpt from an RP session with @oneirophage]
The night outside the door was so dark, suffocating like a black velvet pillow over one’s face. Going out there was insanity. So the dreaming man turned around as another crystal went dark.
No, not dark. Blocked. The crystals were on either side of the hallway and the spread of massive wings blocked them out. Night-blinded, the thing was temporarily impossible for him to see, just a shadow outlined in pale blue light. A whisper like thunder rolled through the house. “She’s safe with her friend. They are kind. She is safe.
“You are not.”
The creature was tall enough to block the entire hallway, and as the man’s eyes readjusted to interior light, he could see it. Skin the color of an over-ripe plum, glistening wetly though nothing liquid ran down its flesh. Silver hair that pooled on the floor, impossibly long. Those two huge wings - and four more, folds of skin draping down its sides like a flesh cloak. It stood on legs as thick as any construct’s, heavy with power, and a tail long enough to coil thrice around its hooves rested on the floor, an odd linear pattern in the scales.
The man panicked, digging his fingers into Betuur’s arm through the guided imagery. “No… no no, please… please spare me!” he cried out. “You can’t… she’ll be alone without me!”
What a coward… Betuur thought, letting the man cling to him as much as he desired. “What is it? What’s happening?” he asked, as if he didn’t actually know. He at least had to put on the illusion that he didn’t.
“Please I beg of you…” the man sobbed.
The floor shuddered as the monster took a step forward. Its face was blank, a featureless, smooth carapace of glistening purple dusk. Though it was faceless, it was also unclothed and appeared to be very male. It extended one hand on an arm with one elbow too many, fingers unfolding like the petals of a flower made of knives. “Come now,” came the deceptively gentle whisper. It was so deep a sound that it made one’s chest ache from the vibration of it. “Come embrace what you have wrought on others.”
A shiver echoed through the private link between Ikei and Betu. That eldritch horror was him, a projection a thousand times darker than his usual fox avatar. And wearing that terrifying shell was…exhilarating.
Betuur had to bite his cheek to bring him back to reality. That horrifying visage Ikeilos wore was just so beautiful to him, and he had to remind himself that he was with a patient, lest he lose control of the guided therapy.
“NO!! NO PLEASE!!” the man screamed. “I haven’t done anything wrong! I-I love my daughter!! I just didn’t want her to get hurt!!” He writhed on the couch, grasping his head in one hand and Betuur’s arm in the other, squeezing so hard that it would probably leave bruises later.
“You have done something. You have turned your back on the compassion of the Light. Do you know what’s behind you while you face the Light?” the beast crooned. Another light went out, plunging the house into twilight grey. The featureless carapace opened its eyes, two glowing red slits. And two more eyes. And six more. And thirty. Eyes burning the sullen red of dying embers covered that featureless face and broad chest. Eyes that bored into the man’s very soul.
“Me.”
The man’s eyes opened wide and he screamed, turning to Betuur and practically clawing at him. “No! No no no I didn’t mean it! I didn’t mean to I was just protecting my family!!” he shrieked.
“Calm… calm…” Betuur cooed. He embraced the man, smirking once his head was over his shoulder and gently rubbed his back. “You are safe here…”
“I-I’m so s-sorry…” the patient whispered, trembling as he clung to his therapist. “I-I won’t turn them away again… L-Light have mercy… I only wished to protect my little girl…”
If he wasn’t just saying that, if he truly meant it and his ways would change, then the visions had their desired effect. Like with all of his patients though, Betuur had added a little failsafe to make sure that the therapy would succeed - if the man didn’t follow through with his word and aid the poor and destitute in the future, the vision Ikeilos had planted would become a recurring nightmare, to the point that it would drive him mad.
The fearsome monster spread its hands out to either side, claws scraping along the stone walls as it took a step forward and faded away with the room and the rest of the guided imagery. At least, it faded away for the patient.
Hovering politely at the edges of Betu’s consciousness, Ikei still wore the faceless abomination’s form but the definitive maleness of him was on much more obvious display. Only you, my heart, can truly understand that the Light in his eyes is only blinding him to the monsters. You and I are strong enough to face them. A single claw caressed the outer boundaries of Betu’s mind with infinite gentleness before Ikei’s psyche rejoined his body.
(I wrote this along with @malvalen-ooc. It was some wonderful creepy times!)
((Oh yes, this was fun. We need to pick this back up sometime. <3))
Betuur's concept is amazing and the masks you write him living behind are deliciously duplicitous. Please write more of him!
Woah, thank you! This was unexpected, but it means a lot!
@dream-treader and I have some plans for Betu and Ikei come Legion, so I look forward to writing and exploring more of his truly dark side.

Anti-villain motivations besides "tragic past"
They do bad things because they’re scared.
They’re gullible or misinformed. Example: somebody who has been told the heroes are out to hurt them.
They are desperate for interaction, validation, kindness, or attention, and the dark side gives them those things.
They want to change their allegiance, but are pressured by people close to them to stay evil.
They have an otherwise noble goal that they will do literally anything to achieve. Example: somebody who wants to protect their child, even if it means throwing other children into danger.
@shadesmarjasnah
– They’ve been in a similar situation countless times before, and they’ve tried the understanding, peaceful negotiation route before, and it usually leads to failing utterly and everything turning out worse for everybody so now they don’t even try to explain themselves because it’s easier to take control than to convince those in power that the problem is real.
– Killing (thousands/millions) in order to be ready for an outside threat is better than watching (millions/billions) die because you couldn’t save them all.
- They are serving their country/people. Their country may be under the command of some lunatic dictator at the moment, but the country is still their home, and honor demands they defend their people, despite their opinion of the idiot in charge.
