When we went to Kennedy Center for rehearsal, I said to my hairdresser and my makeup artist, «I don’t want to see Glenn Close. Close the door». Then there was some commotion in the hall. Two doors opened – mine and Glenn’s. We locked eyes and I closed the door and thought, «Well, there goes that». Anyway, we did the show. Then, there’s a dinner afterwards and my son, Josh, was my escort. I get there and Barbara hasn’t taken her seat yet with her date. There’s Audra McDonald and Will. Sutton Foster and her brother, Josh and me. I put Josh next to Sutton – boy girl, boy girl – and there’s two empty seats right next to me. Who sits down at the table but Glenn right next to me! Oh, fuck!! […] Anyway, she says, «That’s the most nerve-wracking thing I’ve ever been in». I say, «Yeah, it takes minutes off your life. It’s the worst». She says, «I’ll never do it again». I say, «They’re tough». Then, all of a sudden she hugs me. She says, «You know what this is for». I say, «I do». She says, «I had nothing to do with it». And poof, it’s gone. Get rid of that crap. It’s over.
