˖ ࣪ ⠀˒ ⊹ ۟🧈 fixing my relationship with sleep 💤 💭
fixing my sleep schedule is a major goal for me in 2026, this is the year I’m prioritizing sleep. my entire life, I’ve had a complicated relationship with sleep, but these past 6 months have officially been the worst my sleep has ever gotten. and terrible sleep can very easily and drastically reduce the quality of not just your health, but your day to day life, and trust me I feel it. needless to say, I’m tired of this. this isn’t sustainable and so in todays post I’ll discuss what I’m personally doing to fix my sleep in 2026. If I have any kind of update to give after this I’ll include them in a reblog of this post.
──────────────────────────
the current situation : I’ve been going to bed terribly late, to the point where 12 to 2 am seem early, and 10 to 11 pm feel like a pipe dream. and on the weekends, I sleep in so late more than half the day is gone. whenever I put myself to bed early, whether that be an actually early bed time or just early by my standards, it takes me forever to fall asleep and I never get good rest.
the goal : 9 hours of sleep, nothing less than 8, as a nonnegotiable. good, deep sleep every night. waking up every morning awake, refreshed, and well rested. going to bed and waking up at a good time.
what’s needed to achieve the goal
immediate steps to take :
★ finish all coursework before the night (number one thing that keeps me up late at night)
★ move my night time routines into the evening things like showers, skincare, etc. instead of doing it late at night before I sleep, i want to do these things earlier so i can js go straight to bed without having to make myself stay up even later to do my routines
★ lights off, in bed at at 10 pm — no later, not even 10:30 I’m someone who takes a while to fall asleep and I’m also someone who has a nasty habit of going on their phone before falling asleep, so i need all the time i can get to wind down and relax. I don’t expect myself to immediately start falling asleep around this time but hopefully this will let me fall asleep earlier little by little until I get used to it.
★ waking up at my ideal time every morning the thing is, despite my terrible habits i really do cherish a good nights rest (sorta). meaning I’ll wake up at noon if it means getting eight hours. but in order for my body to get used to going to bed earlier, i have to wake up earlier too. so even if i don’t get enough rest, i need to be out of bed when the alarm goes off
things i eventually want to implement :
★ reading a book before bed i desperately need to bring this habit back, this is peak relaxation and helps me with my goal to spend more time reading this year
★ not letting my phone be the last thing i see before i sleep and the first thing i see when I wake up + not spending a lot of time staying in bed after waking up.
this is definitely going to be a gradual process, I don’t expect to fix my sleep schedule in one night or even in a week. I’ll just move my bed time earlier and earlier and work with how I adjust to it until I get to a good place. regardless of how long it takes or how difficult the process is, I’m getting good sleep in 2026 & vowing to not return to these bad sleeping habits if I can help it ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و
