thursday, august 28 | 3/50 days of diss work
productive! but not on diss stuff lol
met with my project supervisor + laid out our timelines for next steps
archive work, metadata entry, mandatory trainings
noodled around with some freewriting, did some research in a direction that i don't think will be productive for the ch but was interesting sooooo
sun, aug 24- wed, aug 27 | 2/50 days of diss work
i am bad at posting and have not been working consistently, so i am counting this all as day two
combed through the edition i'm working on and copied over 60% of the quotes i think i'm gonna use
freewrote myself into what i think the argument is
structured the chapter (which will inevitably change. but i need something to work with in order to get going)
attended meetings, worked in the archive, did metadata entry, put together my syllabus, sent emails, finished an article draft, got a rejection on another + turned it around for a different journal. semester starts next week :)
saturday, august 23 | 1/50 days of diss work
did waaaay less work than i should have...
edited the other piece
read over and edited my first chapter; needs a lot more work still
also worked out, hiked, napped, made some incredible french toast, read half a gogol novel
friday, august 22 | 0/50 days of diss work
finished the last body section of thia article, goal is to edit + wash my hands of it tomorrow morning
got to this gorgeous cabin about 5 hours after we planned lmao
realized that i forgot my laptop charger, so after tomorrow morning i'm doing research on the stack of books i brought + paper notes. will be good for me i think

What! No such Thing
BUT FIRST i really need to finish this one ch for an edited collection. i'm several weeks overdue. bad form
bringing back this blog for accountability purposes while i complete 50 days of diss work (idea copied from dr @soap-stones) starting friday, when a friend and i go on a little writing retreat! main goal is to finish drafting ch 4, bonus is to finish editing 1-3, particularly restructuring ch 1, and bonus bonus is getting started on ch 5, since i'm supposedly writing a conference paper on that ch's topic due in jan.
do you have any other social medias? I miss your updates, they were giving me academic motivation lol
i appreciate that 💕 but tbh no, i'm not posting much anywhere.
“Ghosts are a problem for historicism precisely because they disrupt our sense of linear teleology in which the consecutive movement of history passes untroubled through the generations” (14). They continue by pointing out that ghosts signal “the appearance of something in a time in which they clearly do not belong” (14). Humans like to think of time moving in a straight, ordered line with a clear distinction between past, present, and future…the ghost disrupts this desire for a well-ordered sense of time because it refuses to go away and stay in its proper time and place. In this way, ghosts respond to our own existential anxieties about time and death, our inability to control or fully understand either, and our nagging sense that categories like past, present, and future are not easily distinguishable from one another.

happy new semester!!
i am still working at a local art museum and special collections library so my schedule isn't changing that much, but the run up to the official start day (today) has been a little weird (bad sleep schedule, too many social engagements) so today i'm gonna do a little work and sort out my schedule before throwing it all into disarray again by going to a conference later this week. i have few hanging to-dos from mid january but it shouldn't be too difficult to sort them out. it's cold and gray here and i think there's more snow incoming...
upcoming january to-dos:
2 abstracts (1/15 and 1/16)
grant app draft (1/16) final (1/23)
conference chair prep (1/20)
conference book talk prep (1/20)
funding request for spring language institute (uhhhhh 1/23?)
comps eval meeting (1/24? 1/25?)
schedule prospectus defense (for april?)
logistics for feb. speaker (week of 1/23 probs) (email ss)
conference 1/24-1/26!
i think.... i am pretty much done with comps? i am gonna go over all my papers again tomorrow and try and more explicitly tie my arguments together (try, given that i am ~60 words under the limit atm), then give them another once-over on thursday, but this is the final downhill stretch!
