Priya knocked on Remys door. âLeBeau, in my office ASAP
Remy got up from his seat and followed her to her office.
"Thereâs been an explosion in Louisiana. We have your DNA on file and um..there was a match to one of the victims. We think it might have been your motherâ
Remy stood there motionless. âDid they find anyone else? My father?â
âit doesnât seem so, no
"I have to go back. I have to find them.â

General Notes: Life after Xavierâs
Remy pulled up to the campus where there was a sea of freshman wondering around. Most of them were holding maps of the campus and were adorned with various memorabilia promoting the school colors green and gold. Unloading the car with his suitcase and Bo, Remy made his way to the long line of Freshman waiting to find their dorm rooms. Finally reaching the front of the line, he gave them his name. âLeBeau, youâre in room 5F Block Dâ the young brunette man replied without looking up from his clipboard. Picking up a map, Remy navigated himself through the crowds of people to his room. His Bo got him a few quizzical stares and a some fearful ones. Entering his room, he looked around at the bare walls and the empty closet. I guess this is home now he thought, unzipping the suitcase on his bed.
As the day drew on and Remy had finally finished unpacking, he decided to explore a little. Walking down the hallway, he noticed a majority of students saying goodbye to tearful parents and siblings. There was a pang in Remyâs chest as he moved faster out the building as to get away from the reminder that he was on his own again. He made his way to the front of the The Volgenau School of Engineering campus. âYou enrolled on this campus?â a random voice called out. Remy turned to find out where the voice originated from. He turned to see a tall blonde in his early twenties looking back at him in black framed glasses. âYeah, iâm in the Applied computer science and information security accelerated program.â A smile spread on the young manâs face. âA techie! Welcome! So we have a few events coming up you might be interested in.â Handing Remy a calendar with various activities on them, âwe have a cybersecurity innovation forum tomorrow you might like, and next week we have coding seminars. The rooms and the times are located below the event and youâll see posters around campus. Hope to see you around!â. The young man smiled before walking back to his booth where three other students stood looking to promote the events on campus.
Remy maneuvered between the herd of students all walking in different directions, trying to find potential clubs worth joining. One particular booth was blasting music and was decked out in everything green and gold, from balloons to tablecloths to flags. âHEY!! you wanna join Kappa Sigma??â Remy stared, wide eyed at the fairly large, muscular man. He was wearing a green and gold GMU cap backwards and embroidered jacket with the greek symbols on it. âBro! You have to rush with us! We are the beer pong champions!â. âNo thanks guys, but congrats!â Remy said walking away quickly. He detested frat boys. Moving on, he came across a booth with a banner labeled âWhatâs Good To Eat?â. Now weâre talkinâ! Remy thought, his stomach beginning to rumble.
âHey thereâ the young korean girl said as she handed Remy a pamphlet. âWe have some really great food here on campus including Subway, Taco Bell and our own dining hall. We have vegetarian, vegan and Halal choices if youâd like those too. My favorite place though is the 24 hour Starbucks!â.
Remyâs face broke out into a wide smile âI am definitely in the right place!â. He scanned the pamphlet and headed to the nearest vendor which happened to be Einstein Bros Bagels. He ordered his bacon and spinach florentine bagel and munched on his way to the labs inside the institute.
Remy stood outside the big glass building in awe. There was a line of students waiting to enter, each with an ID. A few of the students he saw were struggling to swipe their ID, each time resulting in a red light and an LED reading âswipe againâ. Scanning the area for the location distributing the IDâs, he found a long table with 7 different lines. Each line was labelled with a range of letters. âPlease join the line that represents the first letter of your last name!â was heard over the megaphone as the Jamaican woman in braids yelled in her accent. He joined the line and overheard the two students in front of him talking. âIâm so glad we got into GMU, they have one of the best clubs for mutant acceptance. I think theyâre really making progress here.â The thought that being a mutant in a public University hadnât dawned on Remy until now. He was relieved to hear that tolerance seemed to be better here and that it seemed other mutants were around campus.
Receiving his ID and entering the institute, Remy looked around and the halls, trying to find his future classrooms. He was looking through a glass wall into a room that had students with headphones on, typing in various code languages. The rate at which some of the students were coding was unbelievable. Entranced by the lines of code almost instantly appearing on the screen, Remy was completely unaware of anyone standing next to him.
âThey make it look so easy donât they?â a young girlâs voice said. He turned to face the brunette. She was holding some coding textbooks and a class schedule.
âYeah. Itâs like theyâre machines or somethingâ he chuckled.
âYou in this class?â The girl asked flipping her hair and giggling.
âYeah, I start on Monday. Iâm doing the accelerated Masterâs degree in Applied Computer Science and Information Security and Assuranceâ Remy replied, not taking his eyes off the room of coders.
âMe too! I got my books ahead of time because I knew the library would be out by time class starts.â She giggled again. âIt kinda sucks being one of the few girls in this major..â her voice trailed off.
âGood ideaâ Remy replied, finally looking at the girl after he felt her gaze burning a hole through him. âYeah not a lot of girls are interested in programming I guess.â
Extending her free hand out, âiâm Jessica by the way.â
Shaking her hand, âIâm Remy. Guess Iâll see you in class Jessica.â He walked over to the next room where they kept the servers.
âLooking forward to itâ Jessica replied under her breath, watching Remy walk away.
Remy carded his hand through his dark locks as he looked at the now crumpled map in his hands. He found his way back to his dorm room and lay down on the bed staring at the ceiling. He had a pile of pamphlets and forms in a pile on his desk and a tote bag full of free stationary and a water bottle. He thought about everything heâd seen, the clubs he wanted to join and the classes heâd be taking. Everything was vastly different to Xavierâs. It was just going to take some getting used to. This is it. This is my new life. My home for the next 4 years
âWell when your boss comes up to ya ask ya to join the Avengers you donât say no.â He smiled. âNo one. I learnt it by myself and from watching this guy that was in a circus that came to my hometown.âÂ
âNo you definitely donâtâ Remy smiled. âReally? Thatâs even more impressive! Iâm not one for circuses though. They kinda creep me outâ Remy said grimacing.Â
Write a letter as your character to themself 10 years from now. What are some hopes/wishes they might have for their life? What kind of a person do they hope to be? Is there something new they might desire 10 years from now? What might they hope will stay the same? What advice would their current self give their future self?
Remy,
Itâs been 10 years! Congrats, youâre old. You better be using that daily hair regimen and look out for grey hairs! I hope youâve at least reduced the annual visits by the fire department over time. Knowing you, you probably didn't. I hope youâre happily married and you finally have the family youâve always dreamed of. Family is important, but so are friends. Donât forget to make time for them too. I hope youâve tried a decent amount of restaurants in Manhattan and that youâve stopped trying to win eating contests.
At some point, youâll have to start the search for your parents. It will be painful and you might find out things you donât know how to deal with. Donât get discouraged. Look to those close to you if you need it. Accept whatever you may find, but donât let it affect the way you love now. Love unconditionally and eternally. Remember that you are capable and are just as deserving of love as anyone else. Realize that your future is determined by you, not your parentâs past. Give your children everything you wanted as a child. Be a good role model. Remember your promise to Xavier and keep it.
Keep working hard. I hope that youâve climbed the ranks in the FBI and that you are still on good terms with Priya. Get to know more people at work and work harder to remember peopleâs names. You canât keep calling people âAgentâ. Always strive to do your best, but donât compromise the safety of your family. Donât stop coding. The things you create may someday save a lot of peopleâs lives. Remember to thank the people who helped get you where you are now.
Lastly, I hope you finally find happiness. I hope you thrive in whatever setting youâre thrown into. Never stop trying to help people. Be proud of yourself and your abilities. Never stop fighting for what you believe and for what is right. Stay loyal to those that deserve it. You are more powerful and more capable than you ever give yourself credit for, stop selling yourself short. Find good things in every day, even if itâs the barista getting your Starbucks order right. Smile more. Your life is what you make of it, work hard but play hard. Every so often do something for yourself. Keep being kind to others. Make more friends and enjoy the ones you already have. Keep being strong, make people laugh, leave this earth better than you found it. Donât shut everyone out when things get hard, your friends and family are there to support you. Itâs ok to lean on them when you need to. Stop being so scared that youâll lose everything because if you stay on the path that youâve been on, I promise you youâre going to be just fine.
You forgot to take in my risky behavior. I think weâll about even out in the long run, LeBeau. Cheap but good, you just have to go to the right places. Trust me on this.

It sounds too complicated for me. And dude, physical trainer. Canât really get hooked on something like that. Iâm not even a huge Starbucks fan, itâs overpriced. Some of the gas stations have better coffee for cheaper.
Literally anything else. Itâs actually really bad after a workout, but you were probably being sarcastic anyway. Or I hope so because I donât even know if that drink is real.
âWell hen youâer boss comes up to ya ask ya to join the Avengers you donât say no.â He smiled.

General Notes: Remy gets some exciting news
[Knocking at the door]
Remy: Come in
Priya: [opens the door and sticks her head in] LeBeau, my office now please.
Remy: Yes maâam [follows her to her office down the hall]
Priya: [takes a seat at her desk and pulls up a file on her computer] Iâve been going over your progress after your mini hiatus. Youâve improved greatly. You managed to find the source of the faulty information and give us enough intel to put the guy away for a long time. Youâre really trying and I see that, and donât think your colleagues havenât noticed either. [Sips her coffee] and would it kill you to talk to them once in awhile? Theyâre not as scary as they seem [chuckles]. [Clearing her throat and removing the smirk on her face] I think you might be ready for that promotion if youâre up for it. Iâll still be monitoring you closely, but youâll be calling the shots. You think you can handle it?
Remy: [blinks] yes..yes maâam. I promise I wonât let you down...and iâll try more with the team.
Priya: Itâs not a punishment Remy. You are confident in every aspect of your work, but when it comes to the team, you withdraw [furrows her brow]. I understand your past and that youâre used to doing things on your own up until now, but if you want to lead this team, you have to let them in. They have to trust you and vice versa. Now iâm not saying pour your heart out to them like youâre on goddamn Dr. Phil, just let them in a little [forms a faint smile but quickly erases it].
Remy: [Remains straight faced as he listens intently to every word] Yes maâam. I appreciate the opportunity. Iâll do my best to do the Bureau proud maâam
Priya: Very good agent. Youâll be assigned your first case next week and your team will be assigned to you. Good luck to you. You are dismissed.

âI donât know what you mean, I just walked through the front door. Am I not supposed to be here?â Esme asked, giving the most convincingly innocent smile she could manage.
Remy came out the shower in the menâs changing room, fully relaxed from the steaming water. His work out that day was intense and his muscles ached, protesting his strenuous routine. He wrapped the towel around his waist and headed to his locker to find his clothes when the door flew open. Thinking it was another gym member, he said nothing until he heard a nearby man protest. Recognizing the voice immediately, he turned around. âEsme? Iâd say the sign on the door answers your question. You looking for someone?â
