I’ve been looking forward to this for so long, and it’s finally here! Fantastic Medieval Campaigns by Marcia B. is a re-edit of the original D&D rules from 1974. Mechanically, it’s the same OD&D you know, but now it has comprehensible layout, readable text, and added clarification to some of the weirder game concepts. If you’re someone who’s been curious about OD&D, but was turned away by what an absolute mess the original booklets are, then FMC is the book you need.

Real allies are on board because they have done the learning themselves and they recognise that if they don’t challenge the structures of power and privilege to which they are beneficiaries, then they are complicit in oppressing those who are not. But if you don’t treat men like children who need to be encouraged and given rewards, you’re told by so many people that you’re actively turning men away from the movement and you’re the reason feminists are considered hostile. It’s patronising, infantilising bullshit.

Feel like reblogging this actually reinforces the point that men need a cookie and a flag to stick in the ground so we 'support feminism', but I dug it. Allies of marginalised groups have their heads down doing the work we need to do to help, raising boys with gender equality #1 on the list of parental responsibilities, trying to being an example of the men your daughters are worthy of, not “walking past” marginalisation in any form. Emma Watson's speech was great, but I don't need a cookie, or to sign a pledge or to wear a white ribbon, I want to do real work.

I couldn’t return to Iran and be executed by the Iranian government. Hence living in PNG was not any better, because being gay is considered a crime in PNG as well, and the punishment for such crime is 14 years imprisonment. I am so sorry that I was born gay. I never meant to hurt you, mum. I wish our boat had sunk in the ocean and stopped me living the most painful year in my life. I thought Australia and its people would be my protector, but they taught me otherwise.
