This process was kinda difficult but overall pretty fun when deciding on creating packaging for Azucaja. There was so much to keep in mind when designing my dessert kit. I had to keep in mind how user-friendly it needed to be, how the packaging worked together as a system,, how to lay out the recipe in an easy to read way and just big enough for easy reading and so much more. it was such a process especially with giving a box form I liked so much for a more useable and mail friendly box, despite how much I loved how it looked and interesting it felt.
I explored a lot of ideas and did a lot of research using Hello fresh and Blue Apron unboxing videos and personal experience in order to then moved digital roughs and finding the right palette to best fit the box and idea. The boxes below were done on the first versions of my packaging.
after printing out a mini box of this die line, folding it, having a lot of difficulty folding, and getting some constructive crits from classmates and friends. I changed die lines completely and worked with the idea of a sleeve and internal label system that ties everything together to work with a plain box.
These sleeves were an exploration in pattern making, it was the best way to incorporate the other utensils I had originally used for my flexible logo, it was a simple and quick process. Below is the die line for the final box form I ended up going with. It is a simple and common box form among subscription boxes and it was a better set up for the recipe and more compact for a smaller version of the concept.
Simplifying the main box and letting the label, recipe, and sleeve do the heavy lifting design-wise was the best solution. Eye-catching outside, simplified inside, The ingredient labels were interesting to make, I looked at Pinterest and other subscription meal boxes for some inspiration and these were the iterations. I went a sort of DIY aesthetic for the labels, something fun to go with the colorful and bright feel of the packaging.
and finally laying out the recipe in a simple and easy to read typeface and making it like its wanting to be cut out for future usage was something i thought of later as i worked on the layout. It was a quick and fairly easy process, taking what I learn in Typography 1 to breeze through it.
After Printing and finishing off the project, this was my final result. colorful and bright, nestled inside are the yummy ingredients for the consumer. getting all my element together to further push Azucaja’s Aesthetic.
This project was overall challenging but taught me a lot about unifying my designs into a system and coordinating everything effectively as well as taking into consideration photography in making my own packaging and I will take what i learn for future endeavors.
