the idea of a road trip might not have appealed to other members of their social group, but maverick had always been up for adventure. when oliver had suggested it, sheâd jumped at the opportunity, as well as the chance to spend time with him. rome already seemed like it had been ages ago.
she clamored out of her bedroom in the modern home â a restored bungalow â located on the pacific coast highway in malibu with a handbag over one arm, a tote bag over another, and two large pieces of tumi luggage, filled to the brim with whatever she thought she might need for the weekend. wearing an off-the-shoulder sundress and a large hat, she looked as if she were going to the beach instead of on a road trip. the tote slowly dropped to the ground as he hugged her and she tightened her grip for a moment before pulling back to grin. âitâs going to be great. you, me, nothing but money and a car? whatâs not to be excited about?â
she gestured to the door. âabsolutely you should drive first. i donât think iâve driven inâŚat least two months, actually?â
Some people would probably say that Oliver qualified as âclingy.â He pretty much always wanted to be around Maverick, although heâd never contemplated why too much. Maybe he should have, in retrospect, but Oliver wasnât one to ponder things to deeply⌠and Mavi, well, she was his best friend. And sometimes that meant that his heart stopped beating around her, which was normal, right? Right!
âIs that all the luggage?â Oliver said lightly as he hugged Mavi. She always overpacked, heâd gotten used to. âYou look beautiful,â he added with a bright smile before pulling out his phone for a quick selfie. It was part of the influencer thing! And also his personal collection of âMoliverâ moments. âI donât know, it sounds like my literal dream,â Oliver replied, shrugging a shoulder.
After collecting all of Maverickâs bags and putting them in the car, Oliver bursted out laughing. âWhat do you mean two months?â He asked, bemused. âAre you planning to kill me? Youâre gonna drive us off a cliff so we die together, arenât you?â
