This is like a marathon, itâs not like a 100-meter race. Itâs a marathon, and you have to be very constant. Sometimes there are going to be ups and downs, but itâs not how fast you go or how fast youâre going to get there, itâs how steady your pace is. Sometimes youâre gonna feel very excited, sometimes youâre gonna run fast, and sometimes youâre gonna feel tired, but you have to keep running. That is the important thing.

There was nothing in this world that was free-- his father instilled certain golden rules into the craniums of all his children and that was one of the most important ones. You pay with your reputation or a future favor or a slight of hand, but that doesnât mean free is still considered bad. It just so happens that Felix may have been genuine with his feelings regarding Astrid and, though every cell in his body was refusing to cooperate, Bo hoped he could place his trust on the fact that Felixâs words were genuine. He didnât mind that his pride took a beating, but his character wouldnât allow him to simply accept something so gracious without providing something else in return. Bocephus inhaled through his nose rather sharply and pinched his temple. ââOkay. Okay then. This is.. acceptable.â And what else, Bo? âBut I canât leave you empty handed. Iâm not wired to just accept favors without repercussions. Iâll do you a favor in the future, by the end of the year. Just come and ask. DONâTâ tell me no, that I donât need to. I do need to, okay, for my own sake. You donât have to use it. It just.. exists.â
Felix almost looked relieved when Bo accepted. There was a moment where he thought he wouldnât, and Felix wouldnât know what his next move would be â but the worry was taken away with reluctant agreement. He lifted an eyebrow at the words that came next, and despite how shaky his nerves were that evening, a laugh left his lips. âA Lannister always pays his debts, hm?â he said, his gaze assessing the other amusedly. âAll right, all right. Will it count as a favor if I ask you to drink with me? Not tonight. Doesnât have to be any time soon. Or should I just ask you to drink with me and stow that favor away?â

âTequila to kill ya feelings,â he offered, grinning wildly in amusement at his joke. He waved the bottle at the other, drawing shotglasses from the table, gesturing at a bowl of sliced limes and copious amounts of salt. Felix occupied two seats, leaning against the other in his intoxicated state. It was ridiculous, really, what a mess this had all made him â and now Felix Salamanca did what he knew how to do best: drink. âCome on, then. Come drink with me. No body shots, I promise â unless thatâs what you want.âÂ

âa million is probably about accurate,â she laughed along, âgenuineness is a wonderful trait, if rarely found in my experience.âÂ
( but she could see it as he searched for the right description of the artiste, as the smile spread over his face â that expression in itself as much a show of âa picture paints a thousand wordsâ as Astrid Van Renesslaerâs own art â and lingered there, bright and all too telling. they managed to keep their rhythm, as she returned his smile warmly. )
âhonestly, none of what youâve just said about bo surprises me at all. and if you think thatâs a ruckus then you should see the duchess of norfolk and the british prime minister in the members chat. insanity, let me tell you. iâve no time for floraigh corriegarth outside of the necessary, but honestly⌠wow.â
âMy, my, what am I getting myself into?â he said, laughing at the description of the chat which he was not privy to. Felix enjoyed himself for the rest of the dance, making conversation with the President, and when it was finally over, gracefully bowed and kissed her hand.Â
The rest of the evening was a rollercoaster. A rollercoaster of emotions (that frankly, he didnât expect from himself and would never again expect from himself) ending in the Moulin Rouge, intoxicated by alcohol, by the music that played so loudly in the background, by the enticing red of the interior of the theatre, by the emotions that overtook him so stupidly. More drink, less talk, Elise had said, and it was these words that he lived by as the night progressed. It was a surprise, however, when he found a certain figure lingering by the corners of the Moulin Rouge, almost shadowed by the thick, velvet curtains. An unmistakable figure, and a smile cracked his expression once he was fully sure of who it was. He strode towards her, and again, so primly, said: âMadame President,â he said, though his words were slurred, and he offered his bottle of tequila to her. âItâs a surprise to see you here tonight. Youâre a sight for sore eyes.âÂ

Location: The Louvre Status: Open
If there was ever an event Elvyra had wanted to pass up, it was this one. Any one, really, that she couldnât attend arm-in-arm with a handsome distraction. The invitation had been enticing enough, mysterious and demanding, and a trip to France even more-so, but she was bored by it all. A charity auction? It was too tense and stuffy, no room for a single misstep, especially not as an initiate. But she was desperate for a bit of a mischief. Near the open bar she chose a seat with a jacket already draped across it for that very purpose, despite the array of available options. Just a cavalier swipe of her hand had it slipping to the ground, freeing it up to be perched upon, which she wasted no time doing. A conspiratorâs smirk turned her expression feline as she flagged down a server with a cavalier wave. âEnough champagne. Perhaps you can figure out a way to deliver me the makings of a perfect tequila shot without earning me too many scandalized glares, yeah? This is a formal function, after all.â (x)
Felix was wandering around the Louvre, almost aimlessly, when he ran into a familiar face by the bar. He needed a drink of his own. âElvyra Ramos,â he called, the corner of his lip curling into a smirk. Oh, he knew her well. Very well. âFuck the scandalized glares. Make that two shots of tequila.â When they were handed the shots, he clinked his glass with hers, and downed his in throat felt perfect, and he couldnât help but let his gaze linger on the bar, wondering if he could get away with one more. âThis isnât the best place to get wasted, though. Weâre renting the Moulin Rouge for the night and bringing a shitton of booze, if you want to come with. An afterparty. You wanna come with?âÂ
hxll-0â:
âYou couldâve just asked me for suggestions but you didnât. You couldâve stopped bidding and let me win but you didnât. You wanted to win, beat me, receive public praise, then earn some good boy points with this act of âŚwhat, charity?â This train of though could be completely off the mark and Felix couldâve definitely been thinking entirely of Astrid but Bo couldnât turn off his accusatory stance. âBesides, she said it was okay that you bid on her and she told me you were sweet for bidding on her. How do you know she doesnât like you? If thereâs anybody who understands that jackass can be redeemed itâs her.â
âLook, I figured it out after I already won,â Felix said, looking less-than-amused at the otherâs accusations, but letting it fall off with another shrug. âItâs not charity, buddy. I just want her to have the nicest time she could possibly have.â Felix said, and then laughed at his next words. âIâm not looking to be redeemed. It sounds... hard. And boring. And totally not me. I need to keep up my bad boy image, Morgan. But look, I did ask her before asking you. Iâm giving you the date with her consent. Does that make it more palatable? Iâm really not trying anything here. Iâve been hearing about you two everywhere, and I think â you could be really good together. That, or, you could just give her the best time anyone can. And that she deserves exactly that. If you donât want it, though, I can take it back and plan something else? I didnât really think this far...â
hxll-0â:
Bocephus was ready to get the fuck out of the Louvre and sleep until his headache swallowed him whole, but of course, Felixâs booming voice interrupted his well crafted plans for the evening. What was he there to do? Boast? Make dumbass comments about the state of Astrid that night and exactly how wowâd sheâd be at their ultra fabulous date later? But when he spoke about his generous donation, Bo did not hide his initial shock well. His blue eyes scanned Felixâs expression for any hint of deceit before he slowly turned his head to peer at the hand grasping his shoulder. â..What are you planning?â
âExactly what I just told you,â he said, retracting his hand and grinning at the otherâs not-so-subtle suspicion. A shrug graced his shoulders. âI really donât think anything I do can compare to how well you know her. I just want her to be happy. What do I know about dates, anyway? God knows Iâve never had a real relationship in my life. I mainly fuck models and break their hearts the day after. She deserves better.â And then he added: âBut it has to be a real date, Morgan. None of that hanging out with a friend shit. And youâve got to make it real good. Like, the perfect night out. Untoppable. Is that acceptable to you?â

@hxll-0
âMorgan!â he called, once he saw the otherâs figure through the many in the Louvre. After his conversation with Astrid, he was in an odd mood. He was elated, of course, because it had turned out well and they were closer than they were before it had happened, but of course it was still bittersweet. He would be happy for them, if it meant that they would both be happy. He clapped the otherâs shoulder, âMorgan, weâve got to talk. My date with Astrid â I want to give it to you. I wanted to give her the perfect night, and I donât think thereâs anyone else but you who can do that.âÂ
pcrastridâ:
she doesnât see it coming. astrid, though quiet, is not often rendered speechess. an upside to being pensive is that it is rare that astrid doesnât know how to respond to something, but she stands across from felix, in the parisian night, rendered speechless.Â
she isnât sure what to say.Â
astrid, though innocent, is not dense, and she can see the strain behind his smile. it is incredibly thoughtful, and though he insists he doesnât know what her perfect night would be, he has gotten it exactly right. the crux is that itâs not fair to him. felix, who has treated astrid with nothing but the best respect and kindness. felix, who has payed good money for her art and her time.Â
sheâs known bo since they were just kids, and her fondest childhood memories are entwined with his. sheâs comfortable with bo; sheâs trusted him implicitly since the day he punched a kid for making fun of her, and he gets her like no one else. heâs her person, and she cares about him endlessly. that much is true.
but. but. she enjoys felixâs company, and the last thing she wants is to cause any heartache. she is torn; she doesnât want him to think he has gotten it wrong, or that she is ungrateful for his willingness to be so selfless. but she doesnât want him to think she doesnât like him, too, or that she is unwilling to get to know him, because neither of those things are close to the truth.Â
and this dithering is why elise refers to her as a wounded animal, she knows.Â
she takes his hand and presses a light kiss to his cheek, overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of it all. âthat is, most certainly, the nicest thing anyone has ever offered,â astrid tells him quietly, an appreciative smile tugging at her lips. âbut i donât want you to have wasted so much money on me if youâre not certain thatâs what you want to do with it.â her smile grows slightly as she considers him. âand either way, i do feel obligated to let you know that you still owe me a meal along the french rivera.âÂ
The kiss to his cheek is more than he expected. It almost immediately lit up his face, after that initial moment of shock, and now he couldnât get rid of the smile that was so stupidly curling his lips. âIâm certain,â he said, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. Of course he was certain. He didnât want to intrude into their story. âItâs not a waste of money. Itâs going to charity â which reminds me, do you have a preference for where it should go? I have to admit, Iâm not the most well-versed when it comes to charities.â The reminder of his promise brought a chuckle to his lips, and he was touched that Astrid still remembered. âOf course. Itâs going to be an unforgettable meal, trust me on this.â He grinned in excitement, cooking always excited him, and cooking for someone special amped it up even further. âAnd if youâd still like a date before or after your perfect night with Bo â or just a fun day out with a friend â Iâd be more than willing to set it up. I think, above and beyond everything else, I want to be your friend. Youâre a wonderful person, Astrid. I donât think I can put into words how charmed I am by you.âÂ
pcrastridâ:
elise morgan, astrid knew, often referred to the younger blonde as a âbaby birdâ or âwounded animalâ or something of the like. she didnât think elise meant it as an insult; once upon a time, she and elise had been the best of friends, and she had protected astrid like it was her job. much like bo still did. the morgans were a protective bunch, and astrid was grateful for the friendship.Â
she was aware, however, that compared to elise, or leah, or even bo, the people she was most often with, astrid was viewed by some as timid and weak. and she didnât begrudge those people their opinions. it was up to her to change their minds. she didnât think that kindness and softness equaled weakness, and she found value in being intentionally good; in approaching everything she did with a soft smile and the best expectations, and in seeing the best in people. and if people thought that she was boring or invaluable for being quiet, then astrid simply had to prove them wrong. not everyone had to rule the world; some people were content with making it beautiful.Â
still, the Society was a competitive sport by nature, and astrid, though gentle, was not stupid. she could see, when she was approached, the auction for what it was; a chance to step up, out of her comfort zone. an opportunity to prove that she, and her art, had value. and it was out of her comfort zone - greatly so, but sheâd be damned if she didnât prove herself. her art being the topic of sale, well that, the artist was used to. she near enjoyed it, actually, the validation of her work having real value to the people around her. it was putting herself up for sale that caused her anxiety.Â
she knew Felix Salamanca, at least somewhat, and she liked him. he was fun, and kind (to her, at least), and he flattered her greatly. she was not immune to his charms, and she was fairly pleased with the way the night had turned out.Â
(sheâd assumed her best friend wouldâve gotten in on the game, but it wasnât like he had been expected to and what did it matter? it wasnât a productive thought.)Â
she grinned at the compliment, grateful for the space he left. âonce again, you compliment me greatly,â she demurred. the mere mention of their date brought a pale hue to her cheeks. astrid had never been smooth in personal matters - in fact, sheâd cried in eliseâs dorm room before prom, and sheâd only been going with bo - but she gamely took the offered arm, appreciative of the ability to take it herself, rather than be grabbed. âplanned it already?â she giggled with some degree of surprise.Â
âThatâs the thing,â Felix said, humming as they walked, âI have been planning it. Iâve been thinking about it this entire night. I love planning things, you know. Parties. Business strategies. Social media empires. So, yes, Iâve been planning it. I canât think about anything else.â There was laughter in the chilly air as he stepped out onto the terrace, finally letting go of Astrid so he could smile at her, taking the space across her and leaning against the railing. He looked at her for a moment or so, at the way the moonlight illuminated her hair, her features, soft and sharp as they were, a contrast that caught every gaze in its trap. She looked beautiful. God, he could feel his heart stop in his chest. What an absolute fucking loser he was for Astrid van Renesslaer.Â
He looked away for a moment because he couldnât bear it, and then he forced a smile and looked at her once more. âI literally couldnât think about anything else. I wanted to give you the perfect night. The most wonderful night of your life. And I kept thinking about what that would entail. Would you enjoy an evening in an exotic country youâve never been to before? Rich, new cuisines, a funny experience with a language barrier, the whole restaurant closed down, a damn orchestra just for you â or would you enjoy a simple night out? A night in your home city, at all your favorite places, maybe an old arcade or laser tag place, where we eat ice cream and pizza and shawarma off the cold streets â the thing is, what I realized is â I donât know. I donât know.â Felix was gesturing, and a small chuckle escaped his lips.Â
She looked so beautiful under the moonlight. It almost made him want to reconsider. In another world, perhaps he might have said this: And Iâm asking you now because I want to know, I want to know how to make you happy. I want to know how to make you think of only me.Â
But he didnât. In this world, what he said was:
âBut I would bet my life that Bocephus Morgan does.â
He was silent again, silent for one small moment. He looked at his own hands, and offered it vaguely forward. Perhaps for Astrid to take, if she wanted, but merely a gesture, if not. âI want to give you the perfect night. I want to make you so damn happy. But you deserve so, so much better than what I can give you. You deserve the world, Astrid, and I think that thereâs nobody in the world who knows better how to give it to you than Bo Morgan. I see how much he cares for you.â He saw it in the bidding, he saw it in the chats, he saw it with every movement that the other made, every single breath that he took. âAnd with your consent,â he said, âIâd like to donate your date to Bo, so he can give you your perfect night.â
@pcrastridâ
The evening was wild, riotous, full of energy and adrenaline â heâd known from the start what he wished to bid on, and heâd known from the start that he would win. There was left the question, of course, of what he would do with his prizes: the artwork was easy; heâd display it either in his house, in a corner where it could be properly venerated, or in his office, where multitudes of people would be able to appreciate it as it deserved to be â plus he would get to see it every day while he worked, a beautiful piece to inspire him to be greater than he is..Â
The date was much harder.Â
He liked Astrid. He liked her more than he had ever expected to, he liked her more than he had expected to like anyone, especially given his image and his proclivities (a playboy, a user, a man with two models hanging off each arm, to be thrown away at the end of the night). He liked her; he admired her artwork and her talent and her skill and she made him feel funny when she spoke to him and perhaps he was just the slightest bit smitten by someone who he was in all regards barely more than a stranger to. He adored her, and all he wanted to do was give her the best night of her life. One she wouldnât forget, one that would make her happy, one that would bring that damned cute smile to her face, that smile that heâd so far only caught in glimpses.
It took a lot of thought, spread through the entire evening, informing every single moment and action and speech, each one distant and distracted and occupied with something so much more important. It took a lot of thought to arrive at his brilliant idea, and it came, actually, as he was bidding on New York in The Clouds. It came as the prices rose and his determination grew into steel, as he and Morgan gouged the prices higher and higher. It came, that single thought, the one that would lead to his demise.
Yes, he knew exactly how he was going to give Astrid Van Renesslaer the perfect night.Â
(His stomach churned, his heart beat slowly and quickly in his chest all at once. Oh, the thought of it. How stupid all of this had made Felix Salamanca.)
When the biddings came to an end, he spotted Astrid descending from the stage back into the great, wide hall and he approached her. A gentle smile passed his lips, and he kept a respectful amount of distance from her. He already felt so pushy â he didnât want to make her uncomfortable. âMeet the lucky owner of one of the most brilliant Van Renesslaer pieces yet. You donât know how happy I am,â he said, grinning brightly, his hands in his pockets, âI think we need to talk about our date, though. Would you mind stepping outside with me for a moment?â He offered her his arm to escort her properly, though he wouldnât take offense if she refused to accept it.
inescapcbleâ:
âwell, thank you,âÂ
she returned his smile; truthfully, it was her goal to get it a second time and beyond â in order to make the most positive change she could, amending and atoning wherever possible â but this wasnât the place nor time to court americansâ attitude to constitutional change. it would be a long, and hard, road; this she knew, and it all rode upon her re-election in november, so for now that was her focus. campaigning as the incumbent was harder, surprisingly, given the incumbency effect ( you never had as much time as your rival to spend on the trail, on meeting people ) so your focus had to be upon fully proving your worth and your mettle to the people through your actions behind the oval office desk and beyond.Â
her smile became more mirthful, a chuckle spilling from her own lips, âyou? behaving? now thereâs a pleasant surprise. is it perhaps to do with your goal to get a date with astrid?â she frowned pensively â just for a moment â at his mention of bo. âhe has been particularly protective of late. not that i mind, of course, as i myself love astrid like a sister of mine.â well, not quite like her own sister. better than that. it came more easily, the artiste not being of morgan blood. âbut it is curious. unfortunately, iâm unsure heâd tell me anything, were i to ask about its motivation.â
the brief troubled moment â and glimpse inside the morgansâ dysfunctional relationship â smoothed over, a wave disappearing back into the wider ocean. ( and, much like the water, as the buddhists say, the feelings are still there, unseen, behind the smile that rests on her lips. )
âbesides, donât you get a token for one free personal attack, considering the catacombs incident? quid pro quo?â
Felix laughed at her seeming disbelief of his proper behavior, and grinned when she insinuated that it might have something to do with Astrid. âIâll keep in mind that there are a million people who would stab me if I took her out on a bad date,â he said, laughing. âI am looking forward to it, yes. Sheâs just so...â Felix searched for the right word: words werenât his forte, and he couldnât find the right one to describe just what it was that he thought about Astrid Van Renesslaer, and what it was that had caught his attention so wildly. âSheâs talented, and brilliant, and so damn nice. I didnât think people that genuine existed.â He had to pause for a moment, though he was smiling stupidly as he continued to move in rhythm with the other. âMaybe I do, youâre right. But itâs really not about Bo, just so itâs clear. Heâs caused a bit of a ruckus the past few days, I donât even have to involve with myself. Fighting with Elise in the chat, fighting with the Duchess of York. He told the Princess of the United Kingdom to fuck off, would you believe it? Even I donât have that amount of chaotic energy, itâs almost admirable.â

inescapcbleâ:
âas much as i can be. as you can imagine; but i ought to get used to it, iâm to have them around for the rest of my life.âÂ
she watched felixâs delight with a brand of confused curiosity, lightly taking his hand; annoying the secret service was ( after all ) hardly foreign to leontine morgan, and she found this small push against the boundaries enough satisfaction to prompt a smile.Â
he would, of course, bask in the bright light of attention, and she would have something almost normal. it would be normal, were it not the louvre, at a charity auction with items selling for millions, with the multi-billionaire owner of a social media corporation as her dance partner.Â
âi wouldnât worry; i havenât properly danced since my inauguration ball. i imagine youâve more freedom than i, of course; any mischievous plans up your sleeve that i should know to steer clear of?â
Felix didnât know why he was so enthralled to dance with the President. There was, of course, the fact that she was the President, and it was always a pleasure to dance with a gorgeous woman, so perhaps he didnât need to question it too deeply. He moved in step with her, doing his best regardless of his lack of refinement â he wanted to impress her, after all. âWell, hereâs to hoping that you get to that a second time around,â he offered, with a grin. At the mention of his own freedom, he laughed. âIâve got far, far too much freedom. But Iâm actually behaving tonight, I hope it pleases you to hear. Though I donât know why, but your brother seems to be taking it as a personal attack that I want to bid on Ms. Van Renesslaer. Oh, thereâs also the Crown Prince of the Netherlands â heâs been influenced to put some flavour into tonightâs events.âÂ
@spcakeasy
So he was a contentious figure. Half the society loved him (or tolerated him enough to vote for him anyway) and half didnât think he deserved to rise among their ranks. Which was completely understandable, he supposed, and so he would have to try a little bit harder to gain everyoneâs approval. Looking through the crowd, he searched for a face he hadnât spoken to yet â and found one that intrigued him. He walked over to the stranger, a welcoming grin ready for battle. âHello, Iâm Felix Salamanca,â he introduced himself, and often his name was the only thing he needed to say, a name after all so well-known. He offered his hand for the other to shake. âAre you enjoying the night, or do we need to flag down that waiter for two more glasses of champagne?â
