I went by the canoe launch site under construction by the Conservation Commission on the banks of Otter Creek on Waldo Lane today. I was horrified by what I found! All of the work done by town volunteers to begin a retaining wall on the river bank for the launch had been kicked in and the logs were tossed in the water. The stakes, string and flags that had marked the site were uprooted and tossed in Otter Creek. And the Green Up Day bag that had been used to keep the site clean also had been chucked in the Creek and was trapped against the bank downstream. I request that this be brought to the attention of the Select Board, as between this destruction and the pylon from the pedestrian bridge recently being tossed in the middle of the Creek it shows that clearly the rowdy individuals are undeterred in their idiocy. This needs to be stopped!

May I suggest a reward be announced regarding the arrest, conviction etc of the vandal (s), Perhaps the Fire Dept. Friends of the Library, Historical Society, merchants and residents would contribute to the prize. Then it would be announced at local schools and posted around town. I think a $1500 reward would lead to the solution.

Police arrested the man who broke into the Family Dollar in Wallingford, Vt. last Saturday and stole cigarettes. After an investigation, 36-year-old Jacob Merriam of Danby Vt., was found at his home Friday and arrested.
