Ah, I can’t believe I’m catching up to cute and nice dramas now. It’s my vacation, and in a few weeks I’m back to college. (Horror story in one word lol) Now, now I’ve been doubting whether or not I should watch this because as always it takes a lot of convincing for me to watch a particular drama if the teaser enough does not make you want to watch it, but hell yes! I don’t regret spending my 2 days watching this drama because God damn that chemistry and unique characters! 

Here’s the deal, Jang Jae Yeol (Jo In Sung) is a mystery-thriller author who suffers from OCD (while I don’t think this was tackled in any way, this might be an excuse to further lead us to the catch deep down) meets the psychiatrist who can’t make love to men or any other form of intimacy,  Ji Hae-soo (Gong Hyo Jin).

P.S. If someone asks me who’s my ideal man it’d be Jae Yeol (Lol, just look at that big ball of tease, he knows how to piss you off but you’ll come running afterwards, he knows how to kiss and how to have fun, all in all fall in love with an author)

Do I recommend this? YES, totally!

THE PLOT

The plot is nicely thought of. At the first few episodes where in we see the interests and love-hate relationship between the two is quite unique for me, it’s really new or was it because of the actors? I feel that because the author is fascinated by the cold stoned exterior of this psychiatrist this leads to further pursuing of the hero. Although, I really hate the drama cliche wherein in order to get close you need to be room mates first and such. That’s a no for me, I think that it’s kind of cliche to be using the room mates method. Can someone please get rid of this flow in K-dramas?! (Teheee). I loved how each episode gives us a stone to build to figure out what the hero is currently suffering, for example at the start of the drama we see a transgender which is suffering on an abusive family and therefore accepts the fact that she’s going to be beat up for the rest of her life, but Hae-soo quickly made the woman be confident about herself and let go of what’s hurting her that she deserves happiness too, this can help us puzzle piece what’s really going on through her patients we get to see and peel Jae Yeol’s state. I love that, I love how we can connect this pieces. The drama is just so full of foreshadowing that I really think that the writer thought of this so well. I just can’t find the connection between his OCD or maybe that’s the result of him jumping on that literal shit hole, that he wants everything to be uber clean?

At the end of the story where they decided to break up and then let Hae-Soo travel the world is something that is really needed, in that exhausting treatments and pressure from the family, she needs to recharge and as Jae Yeol said, “Come back wiser, stronger...” but we see this as not a means to end it clean but to give both sides some time to think. I love the individuality they have whilst in the relationship.

The brother is a good man, he is he just doesn’t know how to express and just use his fists in order to show his feelings and I salute him for staying at the jail for 14 years and still had the courage to forgive his mother, and his father. Although, it’s really no one’s fault (blame it on dissociation).

I’m going to give it 5/5 rating points!

THE CHARACTERS

The characters were really great I loved the characters as well as the actors and actresses, I’ve never seen such a happy drama but tackles the problems positively. I didn’t cry lol lying I did, but because of Jae Yeol’s sharp mind and calm personality he just comforts me in his words, is it because of his confidence? 

I’ve never seen such chemistry before. By far, this has the most kissing scenes that I’ve watched but I liked those kisses it’s not sappy or cheesy but spontaneous and fun. 

Jo In Sung and Gong Hyo Jin should date because of this chemistry but I’m on to what makes ‘em happy!

THE OST

The OST is great, but it reminds me of Cheese in the Trap or is Cheese in the trap’s OST was a dupe? Who knows! I loved how this reminds me of a tvN drama because of the camera switches and close-ups but it’s pleasant. I love how they mixed English songs and happy, happy songs. 

“Why are you getting so excited?”

I really don’t know how to start but hey, at least I’ve made a semi-proper introduction in here. I’ve finished Cheese in the trap after a minute of debating whether or not I should watch it. The trailer and the supposed intro to the drama didn’t introduce me or convinced me to watch the drama but because I want to savor my vacation I finally decided to watch Cheese in the trap! I’m going to likewise try and not include and spoilers but please read at your own risk (lol) I’m really full of emotions now and I don’t think this will head the right way LOL but hey I’m trying! 

Cheese in the trap is a basically a drama by tvN starring Park Hae Jin as Yoon Jung, Kim Go Eun as Hong Seol, and Seo Kang Joon as Baek In Ho. It’s about the relationship of two college students, as the story unfolds the perfectly carved Yoon Jung begins to show his dark side. (Bad intro to the drama, eh?)

THE PLOT 

AH, I’m going to try and write my feelings about this drama and the plot. Can I just say how uninterested and low my expectations were regarding this drama? Yes, I was expecting a bit low about this because on how it was advertised, and the trailers really gave away a tid bit which I think is not enough for you to be hooked or be curious about it, but since I was really curious about it and I hate being stagnant and I want to savor the vacation by watching several KDRAMAS, I did it. I finally managed to get myself watch this. 

First off, the thing that made me stay in this drama is the conflict between the two people at first I was really curious to death that I want to skip everything and just watch the last episode but it makes me eager to finish every episode. I’m like omg why is he picking on Hong Seol? What did she do? Lol I’m really curious why, and then he started to be nice to her, so that’s odd. REALLY ODD. So, at first I thought that this will be something like a medical drama or something that trips into that portal because of how strange he is, if I were Seol I would’ve been frank and told him that ‘hey, you’re really weird do you have ill feelings with me or are we good?’, but here we are at the real funny scene of the drama wherein Seol was stuck with ‘Do you want to eat’ and sudden appearances and repetitive name calling. It’s really a breath of fresh air to see someone who’s (male lead) unique, dark, and someone who walks on the gray path. This kind of male lead is something that’s really rare on Kdramas. Yung Joon is something that’s new to me, and I liked it. I loved every bit of it. He’s weird, and he avenges for Seol or is it just me who thinks that everyone got what they deserve? I’m on Jung’s side he did what he gotta do, and that’s good because they ought to taste their own medicine and I love how smart he was for planning those revenges without actually involving himself to it; But, the thing is it wasn’t justified as to why Yung Joo picked on Hong Seol, and why there are so many questions that are bound to be answered but the drama failed to do so. 

Second, I liked Yoon Jung and Hong Seol’s relationship. It’s realistic in so many ways that KDRAMAS now are really overlooking for example when Hong Seol moved, the expected male lead would give her a house but... this drama is exceptional because it’s reality it goes the other way around, they didn’t focused on the unrealistic themes like showering your significant other with clothes and money and luxury items but kept it low and realistic. The awkward moments, although sometimes I wanted Seol to just give Yung Joon some fight that would make Yung Joon realize something, but it all went down when something happened. Yung Joon is sometimes hot, and cold, and cheery, and sweet you just don’t know what’s going to happen at the next episode. (I really like unpredictable dramas)

Third, the conflict was not really described or dwelt upon; it didn’t provide that concrete explanation to what really happened and what really was the problem, why is he like that, why, and why and why. The issue about Yung Joon’s dark side is not smoothly resolved in my opinion they focused more on the conflict between In Ho, which I really think took the whole drama instead of resolving Yung Joon’s issues. 

I also read some posts about how In Ho’s scenes were unnecessarily put up instead of the explanation of Jung’s, I hated the fact that In Ho’s scenes were much more important than a concrete explanation and resolve of Yung Joon’s personality. UGH, now that I think about it, who’s the real protagonist here, Yung Joon or In Ho? 

Lastly, can I just cry about how accepting Hong Seol was? 

“The more I got to know him, rather than being unfamiliar and scary… He made my heart flutter and made my heart hurt.  So I did not want to leave him alone”  -Hong Seol

I realized that Love is all about accepting and changing for the better, it’s about being honest and ready to forgive and being there whenever the other needs it. 

“Don’t say anything… I know what happened and I know why. I know how you feel right now” -Hong Seol

“Don’t feel uneasy because I will not run away” -Hong Seol

“I know what happened and why you did it. How you’re feeling right now, I think I now. So don’t be anxious as I will not run away” -Hong Seol

Now, let’s get to the ending, the ending is great but they could’ve done a good job not just an email popping that signifies the return of the lead. It could’ve been there on the street and them seeing each other like hat they did when Seol was having a hard time. 

Overall, I liked the plot it was seriously charming a breathe of fresh air, and something that defies to the structure. I really liked it, the ending and the resolve of the conflict should've been the main focus tho. I’m going to give it a 4.5/5 Monkeys loool.

THE CHARACTERS

Ah, Park Hae Jin is a perfect actor for this but he’s both serious and trying to be child like and just wonderful. At the ame time he is able to portray such a complex character for me; he’s so delicate, subtle and mysterious but a child in the heart. One who seeks comfort and acceptance that Hong Seol gave.

Hong Seol is cute and awkward the right amount of cutesy and not too erky. There are female leads that are trying to be sooo down to earth but it’s not working, in here Kim Go Eun is the right amount for that, she’s quiet, but not that overwhelmingly pitiful; the characters were unique they’re not someone whom you can step on; you can step on them but remind you that they’re going back up. 

I also liked Baek In Ha! Although she became an unexpected conflict at the end, she’s fun, fearless and just plain funny I liked her acting! Overall, let’s give the actors 5/5 monkeys for a job well done!
