When she trailed off, he got a little worried. If a random stranger couldn’t be convinced that he was onto something, there was no way he could get his genius friends to buy into the idea. But Fred was able to relax as soon as she described it as being ‘nice’, a wide grin spreading across his face. “Yeah? Thanks! I don’t know if the finished version would be quite like this, but I feel like the staples are a necessity. And they look cool.”

Okay, maybe embellishing was worth it considering the excitement that came to his features upon hearing her compliment. “Not a problem. It’s definitely unique, so at least you’ll know that people won’t confuse it for something else. What’s it supposed to do, exactly?”

“So, what do you think?” Fred gestured to the pile of scrap metal and toothbrushes he’d stapled, glued, taped and hammered together with a proud smile on his face. “I know it’s no super cool self functioning robot or anything, but it’s a start, right?”

“It looks...” Nala trailed off as she glanced over what the boy had described as a ‘start’ to creating a robot. Sure, she was doubtful, but he just looked so proud of himself so she couldn’t help but indulge him. “It’s nice. I like the whole ‘creative use of staples’ motif you’ve got going on.”

“Hmm?” Kiara half-heartedly replied, flipping through a notebook with a slight frown and clearly not paying much attention. “Uh huh. Ain’t that a bite?”

Nala quirked a brow amusedly at Kiara’s clear distraction, trying to keep a serious expression as she teased, “Yeah, I totally get a kick outta’ when I’m tryin’ to shoot the breeze with someone and they’re too busy doing whatever to appreciate it. Really my idea of a good time.”

Nala was raised in a home that fostered the idea that having strong opinions was far better than having nothing to say at all and that you should always speak your mind no matter the consequences. It is, therefore, no wonder that the girl grew up to be so headstrong, much to the pride of her parents. Ever the type to stand up for the little guy, it wasn’t uncommon for her to come home with scuffed knees and bruised knuckles, and needless to say, she got the reputation of being unpleasant among her peers due to her sharp mouth. That was really no problem to the girl, as she lived under the philosophy that it was always better in the long run to be heard even if it meant taking the risk of ruffling some feathers in the long run.

As she grew, Nala cast off the tomboyish nature that she’d had in her youth but that by no small measure changed her rebellious nature. For that reason alone, she found that she fit in better with the greasers, having never had the delicacy or subtlety that befit a soc. However, she could hardly care about social class in the face of other, more pressing issues. You see, Nala’s outspoken nature and intelligence has lent itself quite well to the task of activism, and with plenty of strong opinions, you can bet she’s got plenty of causes to back. Don’t be surprised if she approaches you with a petition or flier, because the girl has a determination to change the world and if you need to know one thing about Nala, it’s that once she puts her mind to something, she’s not going to stop it without a fight.

McKinley was wandering through the mall she had been numerous times, growing up fifteen minutes away wasn’t a hassle for her, especially when she got her licence as early as possible. She always wanted a way out in case family troubles got too intense, she was passing the Barnes and Nobel when  a person in front of her dropped their wallet. 

Of course that meant that she had to hurriedly pick it up and race it over to them before they got to the busy area of the mall. She tapped them on the shoulder, “I’m terribly sorry to bother you but you dropped your wallet back there, and I wanted to make sure it got back to you.”

Nala had admittedly not noticed that her wallet had fallen out of her pocket until the girl came up from behind her in the mall. She jumped at the tap, not expecting anyone to be touching her, but all it took was one good look at the girl to know she was hardly a threat. “Oh, shit,” she muttered, patting her back pocket to find it, as expected, empty, “Thanks. That pretty much has my whole life in it so it’s much appreciated.” 

Holy cow ! this is place is huuuuge ad they said everything was big in texas. Well, I beg to differ. I’ve gotten lost already.

You’ll get used to it eventually. I’m pretty sure they made this place a literal maze just to mess with people, but once you figure it out, it’s not too bad.

“You certainly sound like you can take care of yourself! I’m starting to wonder if I should worry less about you and more about the person who may hit you.”

“Believe me, I’ve got it handled plus some. I mean, I wouldn’t hurt ‘em, persay. That’s not really my thing unless something’s really serious. But a verbal beatdown would 100% happen if anyone even so much as tapped me with their car.”

“Mm, boring, no. It’s not always easy… and if there’s one thing I can say about us Leus, we sure do like a good challenge.”

“Challenging? You could’ve  had me fooled. I’m really starting to think you’re all bark and no bite considering all that big game you talk.”

“Woah, you okay? That sounds mildly terrifying. You’d think people would be a little more careful - I mean, if they’re worried about being late or something, then crashing into someone is only gonna make it worse.”

“Yeah, totally fine. It’s not like I was actually hit - believe me, I wouldn’t be around to talk about it if anyone had actually managed to run me over because I’d be kicking some serious ass. Yeah, but then again, most of the people around here don’t bother to think through things like that. It’s all about instant gratification and no worries about consequences these days.”

“Ah, but is it truly a happy accident? You could’ve become someone’s target.”

“God, you really do have a knack for making everything sound vaguely threatening, don’t you? It’s gotta get boring after a while, doesn’t it?”

“Try leaving in New York. They have no respect.  You almost need to walk around dressed in bright neon colors in order to avoid a collision"

“Believe me, I’m no stranger to New York traffic. I’m from Jersey, so I know it all too well.”

“Americans seem to be quite reckless drivers. Their road systems aren’t even that complicated compared to some of the European ones I’ve driven on. I could only imagine the chaos if they ever came across a roundabout. If I were you, I’d have my mobile in my hand ready to call the police just in case someone does hit you. You can never be too careful.”

“I’m pretty sure that Americans are kind of stupid in general sometimes, so I’m not that surprised. Believe me, if someone had the gall to hit me, police would be the last thing on my mind. I’d definitely be taking care of it myself, no problems.”
